    Pinstripe Bowl=Overall great bowl?

I've been watching the videos posted by ISU and seeing what some of the players are saying via Twitter and I got to thinking last night as I watched the Holiday Bowl, overall this seems to be a great experience for the team.

What I mean is, I was one of the folks several weeks back that was hoping for the Holiday Bowl and somewhat dreading the Pinstripe. But, all things cosidered, it seems like they are getting a truly once in a lifetime experience which is a reward for their hard work and probably is doing great things for them as an overall team. I mean, if they were in another "better" bowl, what would they be doing? I remember for the insight one of the "fun" events was the team going go carting in an indoor facility. Compare that to the 9/11 Memorial, Empire State Building, Yankee Stadium, Statue of Liberty dinner cruise and I think there are some big picture benefits for this team that beat playing in many other bowls. Sure, the fans don't get to flock to warm weather, but it seems this bowl is a great opportunity. I remember my in-laws went to the Orange bowl to watch the Hawks a couple years back and enjoyed the nice 55 degree weather.

Anyway, just a few thoughts. I think now this seems to be one of the best bowls for our team. I just see the guys really getting motivated in the off season, telling stories of how much fun they had as a team, etc.

    Go Cyclones!

rockefeller center at Christmas, all the pre-NYE festivities, got to a much better experience. One that many of those boys will never have again.

I think the publicity for our team and university in NYC is also a huge plus. It's definitely awesome to see the players having such a great experience there. And to be playing in Yankee stadium is just really cool.

The Pinstripe people seem to do a really great job of promoting the game within the city.

I agree with this. I was really hating the Pinstripe initially because I thought the players would feel let down (the weather would suck, etc.). But after seeing some of these video's it's clear our players are enjoying an amazing once in a lifetime experience.

Really, for as mild as this winter has been this far, this is the ideal year to end up in the Pinstripe Bowl. I kind of wish I had the finances to do a big trip this year, because it really is a good opportunity if you can swing it.

I was thinking this a few days ago as well. Ir probably helps that the entire country is having unseasonably warm temps right now as well, because really that is the only downside to this bowl game...the cold climate.

    Re: Pinstripe Bowl=Overall great bowl?

I initially thought it wasn't a "good" fit for ISU but after hearing about it and all the promos they are doing to promote the schools involved I really think it is "better" than of we had gone to a warm weather bowl. The middle tier bowls seem for lack of a better word ,a dime a dozen, while the Pinstripe provides a unique experience due to the venue.

    Re: Pinstripe Bowl=Overall great bowl?

Things I love about the Pinstripe Bowl...

-The name. When you say "pinstripe" most sports fans know exactly who you are talking about. They didn't name the bowl "New Era Bowl", it's the Pinstripe Bowl sponsored by New Era. Kudos.

-The location. The greatest city in the world. I understand it isn't a warm weather climate but considering Shreveport and other cities have crappy weather too...not bad.

-Pinstripe Bowl organizers. Whoever they are they seem to be doing a phenomenal job. The kids are constantly busy touring NYC. They are getting the five-star service and for that they deserve credit.

-ESPN. I love that the game is on the mothership and not ESPN2.

-Yankee Stadium...nothing else to say about that

    The negatives...

-Time. I wish the game were primetime, but now I'm just nitpicking.

-Cost. NYC can be damn expensive.

All-in-all, the Pinstripe Bowl has vaulted itself into one of my favorite bowl games. I enjoyed watching KSU/Syracuse last season and I look forward to many more games in the future.

It's still a ****** bowl...no two cents about it, but the experience would be cool from a player's perspective since the weather is mild as well.

Let's just hope with all of the things that they are doing that they have the time to get prepared for the game - especially getting their heads into the game. Rutgers players are certainly not overwhelmed by NYC and will be ready.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

It's the lowest bowl slot for the conference. Makes it a ****** bowl. Plain and simple. I don't think anyone on a national stage is viewing the Pinstripe Bowl as a premier bowl.

I guess thats your opinion. A bowl is a bowl it's a reward to the kids for a good season. The only premier bowls are the BCS title game, Orange, Fiesta, SUgar and Rose, so I guess by your standards all bowls except them are ****** bowls.

I'll take a ****** bowl as you call it over sitting at home during bowl season.
