Don't bet against an Urban Meyer coached team...

...I believe Urban Meyer to currently be the best HC in CFB.

With all of the threads on this site devoted to the "great things" Dan McCarney did at ISU and the "great things" Kirk Ferentz is doing at Iowa, I thought it would be good to show everyone what being a GREAT HC really means:

In 6+ seasons as a HC in CFB, Urban Meyer has a 65-13 overall record. His record in conference play is 33-9. His record in bowl games is 5-0.

He coached two seasons at Bowling Green (01 and 02) and went 17-6 (a 74% winning percentage). In the four seasons at Bowling Green prior to his arrival they were 15-29 (a 34% winning percentage). That is a positive swing in winning percentage under Meyer of 40%.

He coached two seasons at Utah (03 and 04) and went 22-2 (a 92% winning percentage). In the four seasons at Utah prior to his arrival they were 26-20 (a 57% winning percentage). That is a positive swing in winning percentage under Meyer of 35%.

He has coached two plus seasons at Florida (05, 06, and this year) and his record is currently 26-5 (an 84% winning percentage). In the four seasons at Florida prior to his arrival they were 33-17 (a 66% winning percentage). It is of note that one of those 4 years was the last Spurrier year and Florida was 10-2 that year. That means under Ron Zook the Gators went 23-15 (a 61% winning percentage). However, to keep my analysis consistent I will use all four years prior to his arrival which shows that the Gators have had a positive swing in winning percentage under Meyer of 18%.

One other item of note, only once has he lost two games in a row as a HC...back in November of 02 at Bowling Green.

That, my friends, is a "great HC".

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I was thinking the same thing as everyone in the media seems to think they have no chance against LSU.

I hope they beat 'em. I like LSU more, but I'm really, really pulling for a BCS meltdown this year. It's not that far away...

Before I die, I would love to see a night game at Tiger Stadium. LSU fan are nuts and passionate and I truly believe that the SEC has the most tradition and best fanbase in all of college football. I hope LSU wins that game

It is awesome! I am a season ticket holder and I have been to many stadiums around the country and there is nothing better than "Saturday night in Tiger Stadium".

I believe Meyer to be the best coach in the country but I also believe that USC and LSU have the fastest, best, deepest teams in the country. I do think LSU will win but it will be interesting...there are no easy SEC games.

I am praying for the SC / LSU BCS Championship game in the Superdome!

LSU has yet to show me much on offense to really sacre me... Both teams have rediculous speed on defense. It will really come down to one guy. If Tebow can have a 300 passing 75 rushing then effort then it's all Gators. With that being said I think this is going to be fairly low scoring...

    17-10 Gators

You must remember the common denominator among the last 5-10 national champions in CFB has been a top 10 defense. I believe LSU has the best defense in the country.

Having said that, the LSU offense is loaded with talent and speed. Flynn has been slowed with an ankle injury, the top receiver, Early Doucet, has missed the last couple of games and may miss Saturday with some sort of leg injury and they really have not been slowed too much offensively. Frankly, they have not really opened up the playbook because they haven't had to.

I think the only thing keeping this game close is Urban Meyer and his coaching ability relative to the coaching ability of Les Miles.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
