Let the scoring begin ISU offense vs. Tech defense

If ISU is to have a chance Saturday we must begin finishing drives and finishing them with touchdowns. Yardage and time of possession never win games with out points and you won't win this game without a lot points. While as I said in my look at the Matchup for the Cyclone defense I don't think they will have the success they have been getting all year, I do think we will need to be thinking about 30 plus points to win. Can ISU deliver? What do you make of a defense that fires its defensive coordinator for games in? Read the write up my blog by following the link below.

Re: Let the scoring begin ISU offense vs. Tech defense

    Couple relevant articles

    From SBR LINK
"Sure, Texas Tech has an explosive offense, but their defense is suspect at best. Take the big points and Iowa State this Saturday night when the Cyclones visit the Red Raiders....Still, Iowa State is a middle rung Big-12 unit that will not quit, and suddenly has found a running game. Without question, slowing the tempo of this battle is critical for Cyclones offensive coordinator Robert McFarland who has said as much this week. Recall, the Red Raiders are allowing 24 points per game defensively. If the Cyclones put up three touches, they cover! "

    From KC Star - Link
Last weekend, ISU ran a school-record 102 plays and totaled 415 yards, but it committed four turnovers, and that made the difference in a 35-17 setback to Nebraska. Quarterback Bret Meyer account for three of those turnovers on interceptions, including one of which was returned 93 yards for a touchdown. It was a rough game for Meyer, who completed just 26-of-51 throws for 281 yards. Despite the outing, Meyer has fared well this season, completing an efficient 62.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,092 yards. He however, has thrown just four touchdowns against eight interceptions. R.J. Sumrall and Todd Blythe have formed a solid tandem in the passing game and they have combined for 52 catches, 568 receiving yards and two scores. In the backfield, J.J. Bass leads the team with 390 rushing yards and four touchdowns, although he missed last game. Jason Scales stepped in for Bass last weekend and he rushed for a career-high 115 yards and two scores on 31 carries.

    From Lubbock Online - Link

"Todd Blythe remembers his last Texas Tech game quite vividly.

Sure, the game was a year ago, but that's not why one of Iowa State's all-time top receivers can recall the Red Raiders. "Every third down they treated me like I was the gunner on a punt team," said Blythe, who is 82 yards shy of becoming the Cyclones' all-team leader in career receiving yards. "Some people might want to call them things like a finesse team, or something like that, but I remember they had guys who could hit."

I do not know if anyone mentioned that Clones set a Memorial Stadium record for an opponent with 102 plays. They are still quoting that stat.

Interesting. I would say he's more like 220lbs.
