    Re: B12 Power Ratings

I would have to agree with that list, the XII has looked exceptionally average which gives me hope to have over a .500 record in conference play.

    Re: B12 Power Ratings

Sounds about right, as a snapshot.

I'd still be surprised if KU ends up mired somewhere in the middle. I think once conference play starts, a few teams could knock Baylor & Missouri down a couple notches -- although when I've seen Missouri, the Tigers look hard to beat when they're on.

Interesting to have ISU above A&M, even with the comparison of the Rice results. A&M as played two tough opponents (Mississippi State & Florida) and lost both; ISU has played one good team on the road (Michigan) and lost. Rice loss is sort of combo of Drake & UNI losses.

Seems fairly even. Good thing is, if A&M was expected to finish in top 3 or 4 in the conference, maybe Iowa State has a shot of being in the upper half. Bad news: If most the teams are marginal this season, it might not mean much.

    Is "exceptionally average" an oxymoron?

Come to think of it, an oxymoron could end up describing the Big 12 perfectly this year.

We're the most average basketball league in world history. What, don't we get a plaque for that or something?

    Re: B12 Power Ratings

Seems like a bit of home cookin' in these rankings. OU has wins over at least 2 teams (ORU and Arkansas) that are better than any of ISU's wins - with no bad losses.

As for TAMU, Rice is no worse of a loss than Drake, and there's no shame losing to ranked teams (like MS St. and FL) on the road.

I don't think Iowa State's body of work puts them any higher than 8th at this point. Which is not entirely their fault - their OOC schedule this year didn't allow for many quality wins (Iowa? Providence?)

    Bring on the conference season.

Maybe this is the year Missouri can finally win a Big 12 regular season title.

IIRC, Missouri has NEVER won a Big 12 regular season title. They went undefeated in conference in the next to last year of the old Big 8, but that was the last one.

Baylor looks tough this year, and KU always plays better in conference.

Gotta agree with this. ISU has a terrible loss in Drake and no quality wins to speak of. They have a long way to go before they could be considered mid-pack Big 12.

Gotta disagree about the Drake loss. ISU's loss to Drake was the first game of the season with a ton of new players learning how to play together. A loos this week to Rice at home is much worse than a first game loss to Drake on a neutral court. UNI loss was similar in that the team was still early in the process of figuring things out.

The Drake game was not the first game of the season Lehigh was. If you count the exhibition it was the third.
