    Georgia apparently violated NCAA rules...

...because Richt paid is staffers straight out of his own pocket.

Georgia Bulldogs' Mark Richt paid staff from own pocket, report says - ESPN

Really, NCAA? And you wonder why people hate you...

It's only redistribution of wealth if the NCAA steals from Georgia and passes to the "small" NCAA schools. All that occurred here is the NCAA stole from Georgia and lined it's own pockets...

Why exactly is that even in the rules as a violation?

No biggy. I'm sure this goes on all the time undetected. I'm still trying to figure out you get caught. This would be pretty easy to pull off and not get caught.

So, a highly-paid boss gave some of his own money to guys that worked for him? That sounds absolutely terrible.

This should be a death penalty offense. Not for the program. Just for Richt, because nothing could be so wrong.

Besides how horrible the NCAA is, this is pretty cool of Richt. I always thought he seemed like a good guy, but that adds up to a lot of money.. I don't think too many coaches would do that. I hope he sticks around at georgia.

Former Iowa State assistant Jon Fabris was one of the recepients of Richt's generosity. Fabris was an assistant under Walden and later had stints at Notre Dame and Georgia. He was the special teams coach when James McMillion (aka The Eel) had so much success about 20 years or so ago.

Or worse yet - yearlong memberships to the Jelly of the Month Club for all of his staffers. Then NCAA sanctions should be the least of his concerns - he should be more worried about being beaten with a rubber hose...

Why should it even need to be self-reported? Why should the NCAA care if a head coach is paying his staffers out of his own pocket? It's not like he's paying recruits out of his own pocket (this time, at least)...

Because they weren't using that money to pay players, like Auburn. Silly coaches.
