    ISU/NU Mediacom replay thread....

Scales is running right into the line each time he gets the handoff.

Meyer just threw a drivekiller int after the NU fumble.

    More thoughts as it continues....

How many times on that last NU drive of the 1st half did they snap the ball without us being lined up?

And does Brandtner know he's playing football - or soccer on that fake punt. Weak effort.

    Re: ISU/NU Mediacom replay thread....

Nobody is watching this with me?

If Brandter just keeps his right foot in bounds, his next step was past the first down marker. Sigh.

The only good throw Keller has made was the 60 yard bomb in the first quarter.

Too bad Bass was injured, having 3 different backs would have been great in this game. The line has been opening up holes.

And Keller just made a freshman mistake by not throwing the ball away to stop the clock toward the end of the half.

    Re: ISU/NU Mediacom replay thread....

The defense on that 41 yard TD run was ugly.

Their kicker kicked the ball 5 yards deep into the end zone against the wind, and we couldn't get the ball into the end zone with the wind behind us. Weaksauce.

How many times are we going to let other teams start at their own 40 or better before we do something about it?

    I have no idea how:

a.) Alexander Robinson(I think it was him) couldn't handle that pitch from Meyer
b.) How he didn't recover his fumble! The damn ball was right there, he was in position with nobody around and he couldn't get on it. I don't get it. Frustrating.

I didn't think Scales looked too bad. He reminded me of Hicks. But I do prefer Bass because he seems to run more upright and has the ability to pop a big one.

Scales does own the longest run of the 3 running backs this year by a few yards...so take that for what it's worth.

And...Scales does not reminds me of Hicks. From the highlights I saw, he was hitting the holes hard.

What? Scales reminded you of Hicks? Scales hits a hole. Here is my best representation of Hicks:

This is true - scales kept his feet moving all game. He had a lot of yards after contact

I think Scales is a good big back hits the hard, but from what I saw on the replay doesnt have that elusiveness like Bass. He just cant make that quick cut, I really like those guys as a 1-2 combo when healthy.

    Re: ISU/NU Mediacom replay thread....

I thought Scales looked great, remember this is the 1st full game he played in his career. He is a hard runner, he is not as elusive as JJ, but he is a good...hard runner. The offensive line continues to impress me. They seem to be playig with a "swagger" now. Meyer is just not a good passer....especially if he goes down field. Some of the slant patterns got jumped by the DB because they could look at Meyer and know exactley where he was going with the ball.

I thought the defense played well...they tackled better, but I still saw bad pusuit angles. I don't even know what to say about Brandtner on the fake. If he would have turned up inside early he would have gotten the 1st down and more. If he would have turned it up late...1st down. Even if he would have been a yard short, but not ran out of bounds, and if he got tackled on the field I would not feel as bad about it. There is no reason to run out-of-bounds on a fake punt.

I think we did everything we needed to do to win, but same old story, Meyer three pics....bad kick coverage. NU started on the the 40 every time. If that is going to happen...why not just kick the ball out-of-bounds everytime. Take the penalty and have them start on the 35 with no return?

    Re: ISU/NU Mediacom replay thread....

They can choose to have the kick out of bounds penalty assessed on a re-kick. I'm sure that is what most teams would do against us. Then we are kicking from the 25yd line instead of the 30.

Wasn't that Mahoskie kid supposed to have a strong leg? I know he was injured at one time, maybe he's not ready. Anyone know his status?
