    Former Cyclone player killed

A very sad day today for Cyclone hockey as they lost one of their former players, Marcus Andary. He was a sophomore at Iowa State and was trying to help passengers from their car that was just in an accident when he was hit by a drunk driver.

Thoughts and prayers with Marcus' family, friends, and teammates.

    Re: Former Cyclone player killed

The driver of the minivan, a 62-year-old man from Minneapolis, was arrested for DWI/criminal vehicular operation and booked into the Ramsey County Jail. He suffered what police call a non-life threatening injury.
    ******* typical.

Wow, so sorry for anyone who knew him. That is a very unfortunate story to read. Godspeed Marcus.

Further proof why drinking and driving is stupid. You are usually more dangerous to others than yourself.

Thoughts and prayers to any of his family members. Terrible news

I think the officer might be missing the point here... Its not that we shouldnt get out and help..... Its people need to lay off the hooch and not get behind the wheel.... Lt. Eric Roeske = Fail....

    Bingo!

Let's not be too critical of a 21 year old kid that was doing what he thought was right by trying to help a young woman that was critically injured in a roll-over accident. Roeske completely disregards the fact that this drunk a-hole nearly killed 3 people by getting behind the wheel. That trooper is a huge dick.

What a terrible failure in logic by that police officer. Yes, under certain conditions, his statement would be a good PSA but he was killed drunk idiot not road conditions.

Prayers and thoughts to the Andary family.

The number of deaths from enrolled Iowa State students over the past decade has been mind-boggling.

"...an example of why the patrol urges people not to get out of their cars and help victims." Any place else a person would be ticketed for failure to render aid!

Remember, you're unique. Just like everyone else.

Until further notice, the Big 12 tournament is best. There's an experience here. Not just the teams -- the feel, the vibe, the establishments. Iowa State not only won the pregame -- filling the nearby Power & Light District -- it won the whole damn scene.

    Re: Former Cyclone player killed

Could that cop have had a worse response?

The kid was helping a fellow human in need who I assume he did not know, and gets killed for doing so. Who knows how many people just drove by and did nothing. The world needs more people like this young man, unfortunately his life was cut short. Prayers to his family.

    Re: Former Cyclone player killed

I sent JP an email asking if they would be doing a moment of silence at the WBB game tonight for this young man. I haven't heard back yet but I hope they do. If we can do a moment of silence at a FB game for coaches that are not a part of ISU I really hope they can honor a student that actually goes to ISU at a WBB Game.

    Re: Former Cyclone player killed

Most of you are missing the troopers point. People don't pay attention on the roads. You could be wearing reflective material with flashing lights all over it and some idiot will still hit you.

Police see it all the time. Good people trying to help that put themselves in dangerous positions because they don't have the training and experience to know what to do. Even with the training and experience you are still in a lot of danger.

There is no way to say it without sounding like a Dick.
