What are your ISU Football W-L Expectations now?

Great to see CPR get this deal. I think its a good move for all involved.

I pose this question to you: What are your W-L expectations for ISU football, given this contract?

I am not one of those people that feels a coaches worth to a program is all about Wins. ISU had a .500 season this year and had the best attendance year in school history, seeing 50k or more people in the stands for every home game for the first time ever.

There is a GREAT deal of value in that for the athletic department, so I think this sort of contract is certainly in line.

However, one thing I have noticed with Kirk's increased salary, is that certain win totals which have in the past been acceptable, are no longer acceptable to a certain segment of the fanbase.

With these types of dollars, a certain segment of the fanbase will have a quicker trigger to be more critical...can't say how large that segment will be.

    What are your thoughts?

Mine are the same as before. I expect that he'll build a consistent winner.

You're right, though. People will be much more critical with the money, because money somehow equals wins and the need to criticize even more.

Re: What are your ISU Football W-L Expectations now?

My immediate expectation - he needs to elevate this program from a 6-7 wins/year to a 7-8 wins/year. Let's get there first because ISU hasn't been there since the Earle Bruce era. Once we get there, then we can start talking about 9 wins/year or more.

Re: What are your ISU Football W-L Expectations now?

I would expect to see at least steady improvement year in and year out on all levels. I'm not sure how much WV pays their coach, but this is going to put CPR 9th in the Big 12 amongst salaries, with Bill Snyder nipping at his heals. The biggest thing is the length of the contract, which is huge, but from an annual compensation standpoint, this more or less is ISU catching up.

Re: What are your ISU Football W-L Expectations now?

I think Iowa & ISU to a lesser extent need to realize that paying a coach more doesn't make the job easier. The reason the school is paying more or tying them up long term is other bigger schools want them.

I hope Rhoads gets about 7 wins each year, with 2-3 8 or 9 win seasons, and it would be great if one of those actually ends up being a conference championship or even contending for one here at ISU. There will probably be 1-2 sub .500 seasons in a 10 year span, even under good circumstances.

Looks like Dana Holgorsen makes $1.65, and I'm positive Gary Patterson makes more than $2, so this would put CPR 8th out of 10.

5-7 Wins Per Year. Maybe a 4 or 8 win season here or there. Expect Bowl games about every other year.

People forget this program has only been to 10 bowl games, winning 3 bowl games in its entire existence.

Agreed. 5-7 wins a year makes football season VERY enjoyable.

Re: What are your ISU Football W-L Expectations now?

My expectations are to compete for a bowl game year in and year out. That doesn't mean I expect Rhoads to go to 10 straight bowls but be competing for a stop year in and year out. Once every 3-4 years, I want us to win 8+ games. And maybe (fingers crossed), we can go for a 10 win season or 2 under Rhoads.
