    Cyclone clothes for gifts etiquette

So, most of my family I Hawkeye fans. What I've decided to do is work on some of the younger ones to be Cyclone fans so, over time, the family will turn to a Cyclone family. I've already turned my niece to a Cyclone fan, and I was considering buying a toddler Knott jersey for my new nephew to wear next season. Is this considered rude or just being a loyal Cyclone?

You need to ask yourself how you would feel if someone bought your kid a Hawkeye jersey. I know I wouldn't be happy with it....

If i had a small child and he/she was given a Hawk outfit as a gift I'd be offended if the offender knew I was a Clone.

    Inexpensive gag gifts = acceptable
Stuff they think you want them to keep = unacceptable

I've found infant shirts or whatnot is usually seen as fun. Jersies are too much.

I recall reading an Ann Landers article which stated it is perfectly acceptable to give a Hawk Cyclone apparrel as a gift. She also stated the opposite is an utter faux pas.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: Cyclone clothes for gifts etiquette

Well, I'm starting with my brother's kids because he's not a dedicated Hawkeye fan. In fact, my last year I lived in Iowa, he bought ISU season tickets with me. It's just that he doesn't have the backbone to wear Cyclone stuff. My hope is that if his kids start to, their cousins might start to fall in place. Eventually the Hawkeyes will die out and the Cyclones will move in.

Re: Cyclone clothes for gifts etiquette

I have a similar situation with some younger cousins, except their parents are not avid Hawk fans. There are 3 boys in the family, the oldest 2 are Hawk fans, but the youngest is a Cyclone.

Since it is not expected that I give all of my cousins gifts, it is not a slap in the face to the Hawks. Rather, a nice reward for the lone Cyclone fan and a gentle indication to the others that they can get the same deal if they switch their affiliation.

    Winning cures all.

    Seems fair.

Don't do it ..... if you want to turn them, invite them to games. We have turned many a hawk fan's kid by just inviting them along to multiple FB games at ISU. Once they become fans.... feel free to feed the passion with the Cyclone gear.
