WHO WILL START?

Jason Scales was listed atop the Cyclones' depth chart Monday, but coach Gene Chizik said he'll wait until later this week to choose a starting tailback.

J.J. Bass missed last weekend's game at Nebraska because of an injury. Scales filled in, rushing for a career-high 115 yards and two touchdowns.

"I thought Jason played really well," Chizik said. "But that decision has not been made yet." Chizik went on to say Bass' status is day-to-day.

KEY STAT:
Iowa State ranks 111th in turnover margin, out of 119 NCAA Division I programs. The Cyclones have recovered three fumbles and made four interceptions, but turned the ball over 15 times.

STATE OF THE TEAM:
Chizik offered an assessment of his team, five games into the season.

"The future is really bright here, even though we've had some really grim weeks," he said.

GAME TIME SET:

Iowa State's Oct. 13 game against Texas at Jack Trice Stadium will kick off at 11:30 a.m. Fox Sports Net will televise the game nationally.
