    SEZ Concepts Redux

Let's keep beating this horse; it's not dead yet. I would love to see a club section available for groups on a game by game basis not encumbered to a season ticket. I love Arkansas' plan:

That would be amazing, and would work with Jack Trice. I wonder if they would do another scoreboard. It would seem if you are spending 50 million already, another 3 wouldn't be that much.

I think the SEZ is a few years off - Cyclone Nation will have to prove it for a couple more years that 53k is the new norm. I think the article someone posted of the Rutgers budget is a cautionary tale of what happens when you spend too much without proven fan support.

No way that would work at JTS. If you took that plan and dropped it into JTS, the seats would face the parking lot. DUMB!

I'd be fine with a competition venue for wrestling/volleyball as part of SEZ, but what do you have against season tickets? Season tickets pay for this stuff.

    Re: SEZ Concepts Redux

why does our SEZ have to "bowl" itself in with the east and west seats?

it seems like a lot of the cost is due to removing existing seats to tie in with the "bowl".

why not do something like (ducks in advance) kinnick?

sure it doesn't tie in with the rest, but it adds a lot of actual seats and eliminates the need for hillsides, and i think it would be a HELL of a lot cheaper than the original master plan.

that seems to be JP's MO also-have a high end rendering and settle for something less that is just as effective.

No, just have a section with 1-2k seats with access to a club. For one game a year types, namely, class/school reunions, private parties, etc. The remaining 8-10K seats, let the market dictate.

    Re: SEZ Concepts Redux

I think that they're close...this season's attendance and the new TV package is going to help things. I think that the new video board has helped to transform the atmosphere in JTS and if they just got that SEZ done, it would be one of the toughest stadiums to play in out there. JTS has a modern feel to it...probably more of an NFL stadium feel than a historic college stadium, but it does have a lot to offer.

I've seen where the SEZ was supposed to cost around $35M since they aren't putting anything underneath it now. Just a guess, but I'll say that they will start work after the 2013 season. And if they do that, in the span of 10-12 years, they'll have new locker room, weight room, coaches offices, indoor practice facility, academic center, videoboard, concourses, restrooms/concessions, suites, club section, entrances and new south endzone stands. That would be a total of over $100M. That's called investing in the program.

I prefer Clemson's endzone section. We don't need more seats. We need more revenue. As the economy pulls out of the recession, it is the sale of the boxes that will really make the revenue. That and raising the prices on my bargain SEZ seats.

I think that you could say this year that we DO need more seats. I guess that they probably need more suites and club section seating as well, but you don't hear about people being on the waiting list for those or anything.

What I would do is bowl in the SEZ and then offer all the people sitting there chances at the seats where the students currently are. Maybe put some cool attraction between the levels. Use the north hillsides for Lil Clone Club members and their parents. Extend the current Club Section north and south, basically adding two new Clubs. Then start plans for expanding the press box on either side (maybe half as tall as the current one) with new suites for sale.

Where we are at right now, I think we need 55000 permanent seats, with SRO in the north hillsides and concourses to have an effective capacity of 60000+.

If the day comes we need more, then consider expanding the east upper deck or add a third. Keep west stands for pressbox/suite expansion. I realize we are light years from this scenario.

We don't need more seats for people who will only buy $10 hillside tickets. When we have a waiting list for season tickets, then we will have much more strength for leveraging an addition.
