    Re: Ranking our Football Attendance

I wish we listed capacity as actual seats, and left the hillsides out. Most schools with a set up like ours do exactly that.

Then we'd rank #1 in the country for % of capacity filled every freaking year. People would note that ISU has incredible attendance, etc. I know I beat this dead horse in pretty much all of these threads, but I see a missed opportunity that would be really easy to switch.

Wow, anyone want to go to an Eastern Michigan game next year? I bet tickets are cheap.

IMO, the teams that average less than 30K belong in FCS, not FBS.

    Re: Ranking our Football Attendance

Everyone in the top forty is between 88% and 100%+ capacity, except UCLA. They rank 31st, average 56,000+ and were at 62% capacity. Interesting that they marginally outdraw us when they have the population and capacity to outdraw LSU (#7).

And, holy cow, how did Michigan, Illinois and Oregon get 8 home games?

I'm not even sure that Duke's stadium holds 30K.

Does Missery ever fill up that rock hole of theirs? I swear that stadium is always half empty on tv.

It was bursting at the seams when they fisted us earlier this year.

100th homecoming may have helped that.

Which is why they should play FCS.

I really have no problem with the bottom tier of FBS schools playing FBS ball. There's always going to be a hierarchy. It's why the idea of some elite superconference made up of traditional powerhouses will never work.

No they don't. FCS average attendance is less than 10K. Only 37 (out of 137) teams in FCS average more than 10K, and only 5 are in the 20K range. It is also important to note resources: the bottom attending FBS schools are well below capacity, while the top attending FCS schools (aside from Yale, which has a huge stadium from its glory days) are busting the seams of their little stadiums - Appalachian State is at 120% capacity!

In other words, the low schools in the FBS have committed resources to accommodate 100% growth in attendance. The top-attending FCS schools (which would rank at the very bottom of the FBS) are maxed out.

If anything, some FCS teams like Montana and Appalachian State (and Yale!) should move up, but even then, they'd be at a distinct advantage, because they can't add attendance figures (due to population and stadium limits) to pay for the jump up.

Yale could though, and they already have the stadium in place.

Disagree. We should not be throwing stones. If you start throwing cutoffs out there then where is the cutoff? There are years where we had some horrible attendance, not that bad but not good either. There were years in the 80's a lot of people in Iowa debated whether we should drop down to 1-AA. Remember losing to Drake? Where do you draw the line?

Why will no one bring up ECU to BCS level? Their attendance is great.
