    Albums of the year 2011

Now that the year is winding down, I figured it would be a good time to start this thread. What new music really got you guys going this year?

In no particular order, these are my favorite albums from 2011:

    "El Camino" The Black Keys
"Long Live All of Us" Glossary
    "Go-Go Boots" Drive By Truckers
"I'm With You" Red Hot Chili Peppers
    "Wasting Light" Foo Fighters
"Here We Rest" Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit
    "The Whole Love" Wilco
"The King is Dead" The Decemberists
    "KMAG-YOYO" Hayes Carll
    "Ashes & Fire" Ryan Adams

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Re: Albums of the year 2011

Just seeing this thread makes me realize I didn't hardly buy any whole albums this year. Itunes has really ruined the album concept for me...I was hoping I wouldn't turn into one of these guys who cherry picks off albums but I guess I am now. Still really want to check out that Wilco album though. And the new Black Keys sounded great on SNL.

Re: Albums of the year 2011

The Decemberists - The King is Dead
    My Morning Jacket - Circuital
    Black Keys - El Camino
The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
    Wilco - The Whole Love
Gillian Welch - The Harrow and the Harvest

I was kind of disappointed in the new Ryan Adams this year.

I was kind of disappointed in the new Ryan Adams this year.
I thought it was easily his best album in about 5 years. He got back to being Ryan Adams, sonically. There wasn't a lot of risk taking, but when Ryan Adams takes major risks with his sound, the results are usually ridiculous (in the bad way).

"Lucky Now" stands up to the Gold/Heartbreaker standard.

I didn't enjoy the MMJ album much, but I'm not a super fan of those guys. Love the live albums, but the studio stuff just seems to a lack a lot in comparison.

"Hot Sauce Committee part 2" - The Beastie Boys
I like what I heard off this album. I need to pick that up.

I thought the first few songs were good, and I agree on "Lucky Now", but it fell pretty flat in the middle IMO. I much prefer Easy Tiger or Cardinology.

I even told my wife "I hope he starts doing drugs again so he'll keep putting out killer albums." Only a little bit of

I think it was the beginning of this year rather than the end of last year, but Kaputt by Destroyer was just fantastic.

Re: Albums of the year 2011

Lot of albums I have on my "need to hear" list ... I hear fewer albums and am slower to get to them than I was when I was younger.

    So my list is way-short:
    "12 Desperate Straight Lines," Telekinesis
    "The Whole Love" (Deluxe) Wilco
    Yuck
    "Move Like This," The Cars

To-get list includes Foo Fighters and Tapes 'n Tapes

Threads like this may help me expand my playlist.

Re: Albums of the year 2011

Some of my favorites just off the top of my head (I'll post another one after school when I'm able to sit down and really grind out a good top 10 or 5):

    Black Keys - El Camino
Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce pt 2
Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
    Adele - 21
    Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
Kanye and Jay Z - Watch the Throne
    The Weeknd - Thursday
Puscifer - Conditions of My Parole
    Drake - Take Care

Albums I liked but havent gotten a lot of play time on my iPod:
Cold War Kids - Mine is Yours
    Cold Wars - Barton Hollow
    Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
    The Roots - Undun
The Weeknd - House of Baloons
    Radiohead - King of Limbs
Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
Washed Out - Within and Without
Paul Simon - So Beautiful or So What

Albums I anticipated but I didnt like, or that disappointed me:
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter IV
    Eddie Vedder - Ukulele Songs
    James Blake - James Blake

Albums that just sucked and I never actually listened to or I listened to once and will never again:
    Nickleback - Here and Now
Metallica and Lou Reed - Lulu (probably the worst thing I've ever heard)

There are a million that I havent added becaue I cant remember them. I'll add more as the day goes on.
