    Starter House in Beaverdale

Getting ready to list my 2 BR house for sale in Beaverdale and figured I'd see if there was anyone here looking for a home in the area. It's 1649 Northwest Drive in Des Moines. Things that have been done recently: new furnace/AC/water heater, new sump pump, new main bathroom. Refrigerator is new as of when I bought the house 2005. HE Washer/Dryer last year. Replaced sewer pipe and retaining walls along the driveway since being there as well. If interested let me know and I can send pictures or answer any questions.

Sounds nice. Love Beaverdale area! Not interested myself, but I'm sure the big question people are going to ask (that you didn't mention) is garage situation.

Looks like its a 1 car garage that goes under a living area... it also looks like it has a 3 seasons room and its nicely shaded if you're into that.

    Love Google Maps!

    Re: Starter House in Beaverdale

I loved Beaverdale. We lived on Urbandale Av for just a few months. (It was my wife's childhood home that was between renters when we moved back from KC). We loved Michael's, but I really like the layout of the new Saints. It's just so nice to live in a tree-lined community and being so close to everything.

Nice enough area. Reason we didn't buy there is the smaller rooms, especially closets, bathrooms, and garage.

And you need to factor in school district.

    Re: Starter House in Beaverdale

Lived in Beaverdale for 7 years before moving to Ames. Loved the neighborhood and small town feel. Be ready to spend about 2 weeks raking and bagging leaves each Fall.

The one draw back is the schools in that area. No comparison to Gilbert, IA schools.

We looked in Beaverdale, but choose West Des Moines when you consider property taxes and school district.

Overall Beaverdale is an affordable area that is decent. You can find a lot of good established neighborhoods without having to pay the premium of newer areas. Your best bet is really just scope out the neighborhood. Drive by at different times...etc. Check the neighbor's yards...if they're kept up well that is a good sign.

I live on the way South edge of Beaverdale and would tell you NOT to go any farther east or South of me (30th st and Jeffersonish) I think it's a great area...but each street can be different but all in all a pretty decent area for Des Moines proper.

Ahh yes I was going to say this... Definitely compare your total cost....IMO taxes in Des Moines are high. You might get more house but have to pay more taxes.
