    Parallels to the Miami Heat?

I was thinking today about the Miami Heat and comparing them to us.

At the beginning of the season last year the Miami Heat had some bad losses. The first 19 games of the season they were 11-8. Which is roughly a quarter of their season. The next game was the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that was absolutely terrible but stuck with them the first quarter and some of the second because there was a lot of emotion because Lebron James left. But the heat gutted it out and won big. The season turned around from that point and they won 19 of their next 20 games. They went on to be 2nd in their conference and went on to the NBA finals.

    The Big 3 (trades/transfers)
    Lebron James - Chris Allen
    Dwayne Wade - Chris Babb
    Chris Bosh - Royce White

Right now we are 5-3 which is roughly a quarter of our season. We (hopefully) win tonight and then we have Iowa, a terrible team, but will play with a lot of emotion because we're Iowa State. This is where Iowa State turns it around, we will struggle in the beginning of that game and then we turn the whole ship around and go on and contend for the Big 12 title.

The problem is LBJ & Wade are 2 of the 3 best players in the entire NBA...can't say the same about Allen, Babb, or White w/ respect to the NCAA, or Big XII for that matter.

Re: Parallels to the Miami Heat?

When I read the title to this thread I kept thinking why in the hell is Bill Parcells taking a job with the Miami Heat.

When I figured it out, my first reaction actually made more sense.

Well I wasn't saying our players are the top players in the NCAA or Big XII. It was mainly going after the whole transfer/trade idea, the losing early, and the emotional win against the Cavs/Hawkeyes.

Ah, right on. I really hope we have a defining moment like that. We just need to come together & start playing as a TEAM on both sides of the court.

Beating Iowa isn't going to do a damn thing for this team other than the fact that losing would be Armageddon.

Re: Parallels to the Miami Heat?

This is a GREAT analogy that has same to my mind many times while watching this year's team. There's so much talent, yet these men still need to gel and learn what it is to play like a team.
I believe that just like in Miami, it will come with time as players learn what their rolls are, and what their rolls aren't. No one should be too surprised this season has gotten off to the start is has. This will take time, but there is no doubt in my mind that we WILL be good eventually!

Just like Miami losing to Cleveland would've been Armageddon.

Re: Parallels to the Miami Heat?

I think the Heat comparison is somewhat valid. That's why I'm not giving up yet. There's plenty of talent on this team compared to other Big 12 teams. If we can find the right mix and put it together we can still have a good season.

I don't think beating Iowa will mean anything. There's not an emotional element to it like Cleveland was for the Heat. It's all about finding the right rotation and chemistry. We have failed miserably so far at that IMO. Fred needs to shake things up and make changes. I hope he does it sooner rather than later.

Re: Parallels to the Miami Heat?

I think the talent of the transfers was overstated, but I still think that they have time to put things together and gel. Allen needs to get under control or Fred should bench him because it sure doesn't help the offense when he just comes down and jacks up a bad shot. People are calling for Scotty to come off the bench but to me it is Allen who needs to come off the bench. Scotty should play the 2 position and let Bubu or McGee start at PG. Christopherson has shown himself to be a much better shooter than Allen is from 3. Scott's career 3pt% is around 42% while Allens is I think around 34 or 35%. Scott is one of the best 3 point shooters in the country and needs to get more looks. Allen needs to stop shooting and start passing.
