    2009 Biggest need?

I posted this earlier, but it was buried in with other questions that the thread addressed.

We have one schollie left to give for 2009 if everyone stays? Is that correct? We have offers out to Royce White (along with about half the other D1 schools) and to Trent Lockett (only three other offers). A PF and a SG/SF. Where is the biggest need? With Mann on board as a PF, do we need a SG/SF worse?

    Re: 2009 Biggest need?

I'd say take the best available player regardless of position unless we have severe attrition and have a gaping need after this year. If everyone's on board (or all but 1 or 2) from this years roster next year we should be fairly set at each position. Also will have to see how the newcomers pan out this year to identify needs.

I am kinda curious if there will be a negative effect on scholarships in a couple years with all the defections from last year. They may be holding out on that one to see if they might lose it if the average drops.

IMO... just like a pro draft, we take the best player available, regardless of position.

    Re: 2009 Biggest need?

Without seeing how everyone pans out this year, there's not an obvious weakness. If I were to guess, I'd lean toward a PF/C since the big guys tend to take longer to develop. But if we could get a 5-star guard, I'd take that over a 3-star PF/C.

    Re: 2009 Biggest need?

We have offered Rodney Williams as well. A freak athlete from Minny along with the two other Minnesota prospects. He was also visiting during the iowa game with White, and Lockett! Just getting one of those three would be huge!

    Re: 2009 Biggest need?

I would say with Harrison Barnes sitting there and he basically plays the same position as Royce White that we would look at Rodney Williams and Trent Locket as the two guys we want the most. Now if White commited to us I am pretty sure we would take it.

So my guess is Locket is our #1 target followed by Rodney Williams and Royce white.

    Re: 2009 Biggest need?

Between Garrett, Brister, and Buckley one of them has to be a solid PG. I'd think another swingman would be a priority in that class.

I thought Barnes was more of a pure 3 and White was considered a 4?

I see Williams is highly rated, but with few offers. That usually indicates an injury or grade challenge. Any insight?
