    Bill Bleil contacted by Akron

Was contacted over the weekend about their head coaching position after Tressel said thanks but no thanks. Apparently Bleil said virtually the same thing as it wouldn't be much of a pay raise and it would be nearly an impossible rebuilding job with all of the quality teams in Ohio. Just thought I would pass that along

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to think of Bleil early in the year, with the talk of this being our best o-line group yet. But seeing our younger guys step in late in the year with no significant drop-off in production has made me believe we need to hold on to him.

The more success we have, the harder its going to be to hold onto assistants. Getting more money for that budget is almost as important as making sure rhoads is happy.

I don't have a link but I'm sure there will be one and I will post it. They are friends of the family and I dont think he considered the job for a second. His first head coaching job was completely unfair to him at Western Carolina (was conference coach of the year the year he was let go) and I don't think he wants to move away from Iowa

Re: Bill Bleil contacted by Akron

Isn't Bleil also listed as associate head coach or something like that, in addition to being o-line coach? I think he's got a lot of say about how the team operates. I thought I read somewhere during the staff's first year that Rhoads worked with Bleil a lot on being a head coach since Bleil had that experience.

Isn't this where he came from to us? If so, this would make sense.

I see on the rebuilding for sure, but the salary would be a decent difference... register database lists his current salary at about 150k, the Akron job was paying over twice that last year.

With how Akron AD fired Rob Ianelli, I think every candidate will have to think more than twice before even interviewing

I forgot that was Akron pulling that stunt. Good point! That lack of class and nasty personal touch is not going to help their search efforts. I imagine that there is more detail circulating through the coaching ranks about that story (true and false) than we know here.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
