    9 Game conference schedule

Does anyone think the way the BCS and the like turned out for the Big 12 that they back off of the 9 game conference schedule? In the previous North/South alignment things could have been very different. What if OSU had not been slated to play ISU? What if Texas Tech had not played ISU, they would be bowling. Texas could have missed out on Mizzou and K-State.

Having another non-con game could have made the Big 12 look even more dominant. I think if the conference demands and least one BCS school on all schedules (OU tends to do this) and could only play FCS schools every other year there would be lots of great inventory for the television partners.

....or does this speed up Big 12 expansion? The Big 12 complained about getting screwed in the BCS because of the championship game. Well it did not seem to matter, the Big 12 got screwed again.

I dont think it matters who you play. You just have to have a big name to play in the big games.

I think when it is clear that the BCS is all about how much money a certain team will bring a certain bowl...I could see the B1G back off of their plans to go to 9. It is clear they can keep it easy on themselves and not beat up on each other.

    Re: 9 Game conference schedule

The problem is, the big 12 is getting screwed from 2 sides. One is that the big 12 in general is being undervalued by human polls and the media (as relative to computer rankings).

The other problem, something not as easily fixable. That problem is the names that are leading our conference. Oklahoma State, KState, and Baylor. If those teams were Texas, Oklahoma, and TAMU, is there any doubt that Texas is in the title game? Is there any doubt Oklahoma gets a BCS bid?

    Re: 9 Game conference schedule

I'm praying the Big XII goes back to 12. We apparently need a championship game to legitimize ourselves as a "quality" conference. It will also give all of our teams another chance at a cake walk non-conference game. So instead of Oklahoma State losing to Iowa State, they kill Georgia Southern, stay undefeated, and play for a National Championship. Likewise for us, we get to play Lousiana-Monroe and don't have to play one from the wringer of Texas, Baylor, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, or Kansas State and likely sit at 7-5 not 6-6.

Disagree with the teams I have bolded. West Virginia, Clemson, and Wisconsin are all deserving of their BCS bids because they won their respective conference championships, and Bama and Stanford are worthy of BCS invites (although I don't necessarily agree with where Bama is playing) because both of them are rated above K-State.

But I 100% agree with you that neither VT nor Michigan deserve to be there above K-State. Especially not VT.

TV inventory means likely no chance at seeing an 8 team conference schedule.

Agree that we need to get that 12-team conference restored. It's at least a problem for the conference's image to look small-time without the championship game right now.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Re: 9 Game conference schedule

With 10 conference teams, there really isn't a better way to do it. Our conference not only beat up on our out of conference schedule, we played a harder out of conference schedule. You should see some of the teams the SEC teams played.

If anything, we should rearrange the schedule so we can have a gimme week in the middle of our seasons to get things like suspensions and injuries out of the way. Look at this garbage:

    Oct 22: Vanderbilt vs. Army
Oct 22: Kentucky vs. Jacksonville St.
Nov 5: Georgia vs. New Mexico St.
Nov 5: Tennessee vs. Middle Tennessee St.
Nov 5: Mississisppi St. vs. Tennessee-Martin
Nov 12: LSU vs. Western Kentucky
Nov 12: Ole Miss vs. Louisiana Tech
Nov 19: South Carolina vs. Citadel
    Nov 19: Florida vs. Furman
    Nov 19: Auburn vs. Samford
Nov 19: Alabama vs. Georgia Southern

Is there any other conference that plays garbage teams like this that late in the season? Maybe that's what we need to do. Spread our conf. schedule out a little bit and sprinkle cupcakes in the middle instead of putting them at the beginning.

12 teams means more inventory. And the way teams are going to schedule, going to 9 games pretty much is going to end up mean losing good noncon matchups and gaining some conference games.

When everyone can play 4 winnable noncon games, that makes everyone look better. Imagine if OSU was playing one of those teams instead of us that weekend? Theyre undefeated. If KSU is playing one of those instead of Oklahoma, theyre a 1 loss team. (in the old rotation, both of those games wouldntve happened).

And it makes some sense. Lets teams mix in a semi-bye week in the middle of the season.

SEC does it EVERY year. They schedule a virtual scrimmage in November. Heal up some guys, and keep the rest of the team sharp with no threat of losing.

yet Bama fans were crying about OSU having a bye before playing OU...and how OSU got to play in December.
