    Water Heater??

Last night woke up to my pressure relief valve leaking water onto the floor in the utility closet. I turned the temp dial all the way down and turned off the water supply to the water heater and it stopped after a minute.

Is it new water heater time? Or could it just be the pressure relief valve that is bad? How do I test it to find out?

    Re: Water Heater??

You can replace the T&P valve pretty easy. Just turn your water supplies off, drain the water off a little and thread it out. Ace sells them so I'm sure you can find them @ any hardware store. The only variable is the length of the valve, make sure to bring the old one with you as there are about 3 or 4 different lengths. Under 20 bucks should get it done.

    Re: Water Heater??

Is it a slow leak that is dripping out and maybe a bad seal?

We have had issues with our water heater when the wife takes a bath. The only thing that I can figure out is the pressure relief valve somehow opens and sprays water all over the basement. I can't figure out why it only happens when she takes a bath and not a shower or the clothes washer or dishwasher is running.

The water heater is only a little over 3 years old so it shouldn't be going bad I wouldn't think. I will probably try to call someone this week to see if I can figure out what is going on, but if anyone here has any ideas, let me know.

    Re: Water Heater??

So I replaced the relief valve and it seemed to fill up and heat up ok. Then I noticed another problem. There was a leak on the ball valve for the cold water inlet. By the looks of it, it had been leaking a while. So I goto the store and get a new one. Shot off the water to the house, and disconnect the valve then the water heat starts leaning. That pipe was supporting the water heater because the base was completely rusted out. Ran out to menards and grabbed a new water heater and it is now installed and I have hot water.
