It did kind of look like that, so it doesn't surprise me. Too bad it didn't take a freak bounce.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

Way to obvious for it to be an actual fumble, knew he had too have done it on purpose once it happened the way it flew out of there. Definitely an intelligent thing to do under the situation, it's a no lose... Very smart play given the circumstances.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

I was wondering there in the end if we had a chance to get it after they seemingly recovered. It almost looked like they picked it up and lost it again, which would have been nice for us.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

The funny thing is that everybody in the stadium knew it was going to Woody, and I still think it was the right call. He got the tough yards for us all day. I thought our guys played one hell of a game today, and I look forward to seeing what they can do against a Big ten pushover in their bowl game.

I didn't think you could advance a fumble on fourth down, unless the fumbling player recovers. That being said, regardless it was a heads up move.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

I know this point is moot, but in the NFL Woody would have had to recover his own fumble because it was fourth down and under two minutes left in the game (the Oakland Raiders holy roller play eons ago vs. Chargers),but I don't believe college has that rule but a play like Woody's doing it on purpose could change the rule in college.

The only other play I would have liked to see ran is to have Woody lead Barnett into the hole. The way the D line blew that one up, I'm not sure that would have helped.

Just listening to Jeff you can tell that's he's a very intelligent young man. Hard worker, great guy, and having intelligence equates to success on and off the field and he's the type of person I'd want working for or beside me. Guys like him make me proud to be a cyclone.

I didn't think this was a 4th down rule but I did think there was something about within the last X amount of minutes of half. Not sure.

It looked like the fumble was backwards though, so I think it's just a lateral then.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

From the 40 with a minute to go and defenders crowding the line, I thought we might try to pass it to Lenz or Money or Gary. It surprised me a littler to see the run in some ways.

if Barnett keeps the ball on that read, he gets ten yards...
Hindsight is always 20/20. Im sure he had his mind made up before the play happened that he would give it to Woody.

    Truth.
I didnt like the play call but a more seasoned player might have made that call. I dont think there was any doubt in his mind he was giving it to Woody.

Re: Woody fumbled on purpose at the end of the game

Barnett missed some reads today, and I think that was one of them. That said, as always there were other opportunities that were missed by other players that could have kept us from being in that position anyway.
