We REALLY need to take care of the ball (stats)

Check out these stats from our four losses:

First Downs: ISU 23.5, Opp 18.0
Total Yards: ISU 379.25, Opp 339.0
Possession Time: ISU 33 min, Opp 27 minutes

We're controlling the ball, gaining more yards, and getting first downs. The problem is:

    Turnovers: ISU 15 Opp: 7
Points off turnovers: ISU 10 Opp: 58

I could be wrong on that last stat, but by everything I've found I think it's correct.

Finally... I said to myself I'd let Bret finish it out as a Clone and I'd leave him alone after the Iowa game. The guy is just not performing. He already has 8 interceptions (career high 12) He has a career low passer rating of 112, he's not even close to the top 10 quarterbacks in the big 12 in effiency... Basically, what I'm saying is he is not getting it done. I don't know if it's the new system or what, but if he's going to play like a freshman... play the freshman. From what it sounded like Grixby jumped the coverage on all three of the interceptions. That's a mistake on the QB. I'm not saying send him to the bench forever, but I'd really like to see Arnaud getting more series' and more pass attempts. I have a hard time believing the freshman would do worse than 8 interceptions right now.

Two of the interceptions came on slant routes, which are usually predesigned, quick pass plays. I think we just started running that route so much that Grixby finally jumped the route and broke it up. When a play like that gets intercepted, often there's no much between the guy and the end zone.

I think its probably true that Arnaud wouldn't do worse, interception-wise. But one thing Meyer has been doing well the last 3 weeks is sustaining drives, which I think a freshman would struggle with. The only issue I really have with the offense is not finishing the drives. 415 yards of offense and 28 first downs should result in more than 17 points.

I agree that they are quick hit routes, but that is where reading the defense comes into play before the snap. I mean I could be way off here and go ahead and let me know if I am, but I just think that 3 interceptions, all caused by the same guy on the same routes says something.

    Bryce,

Good job on the stats. With those offensive #'s (beside the TO's) ISU should be 5-0 especially considering how well the defense has played this season.
