    TicketCity bowl out?

Just saw that Bobby La Gesse from the Ames trib posted this comment in his story yesterday...
TicketCity Bowl president Tom Starr told the Columbia Tribune this week that he expects the bowl to select a Conference USA team.
Go Cyclones - Where will ISU go bowling?

That mean a Purdue-SMU matchup is all set to go?

Conference USA is expected to have 2 open spots. If the TicketCity selects SMU there will be 2 open bowls from...

    -Hawaii bowl
    -Armed Forces bowl (Fort Worth)
-Beef O'Brady bowl (St. Pete, FL)
    -New Orleans

Sounds like Purdue is set from the Big 10...and probably SMU from C-USA.

"It's safe to say they're the frontrunner if they do move two to the BCS," TicketCity President and CEO Tom Starr said of the Boilermakers.

As far as opponents, the TicketCity Bowl also has an agreement with Conference USA. Starr said the league champion goes to the Liberty Bowl, but other selections are made based on "what makes sense geographically."

Houston, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa, Southern Methodist and Marshall are eligible from Conference USA. Unbeaten Houston will likely land a spot in the BCS if it beats Southern Mississippi in Saturday's title game. Starr said a team from the Big 12 Conference could factor into the equation.

"We're looking at SMU because they're local, and Houston if it would fall in the championship game," Starr said. "They would be 11-1 and a highly ranked team. Very attractive candidate for us."

Not sure why anyone ever thought Ticket City was an option. Pundits are clueless.

St Pete bowl would be nice even if the name is lame. Can fly w/ alliegant air for about $200 round trip but they only fly on Sun and Thurs so you would have 4 nights of hotel. Plus its the week before christmas so Im not sure that people could get outa work that quickly and at that time of the year.

Exactly, the TicketCity Bowl has contracts with the Big Ten and CUSA and both conferences have enough bowl eligible teams to fill the slots. So the TicketCity must select two teams from these conferences. Does anyone think the Cotton Bowl is going to take a Big Ten and Pac 12 team instead of SEC and Big 12.

Most thought it was an option because there is some confusion as to whether there is a selection order among the C-USA bowls or if there is not. It appears all the bowls get together to discuss and there is not a selection order...some thought the order was

    Liberty
    Hawaii
    Armed Forces
    St. Pete, FL
    New Orleans
    TicketCity

Although it appears this year that the 2 bowls that will be looking for teams are Hawaii and New Orleans.

    Re: TicketCity bowl out?

Not so fast. In the same Boilermaker article, Ticket City CEO Tom Starr states that a Big 12 conference team may be in the equation. My guess (and hope since I live in Dallas) is that the Clones will go to either Ticket City or Armed Forces Bowl. Last week SMU was openly discussed as a possible fit for the Ft Worth Armed Forces Bowl. Now SMU may appear likely for Ticket City. IMO, we Bowl in The DFW area at Ticket City or Armed Forces wherever SMU doesn't end up.

    Re: TicketCity bowl out?

Here's why TicketCity was and still is an option.

Based off of what I'm hearing from some sources in KC, instead of the Big 12 sticking it to Missouri and sending the Tigers to a non-Big 12 bowl, they could stick it to the Tigers and send them exactly where they DO NOT want to go. NYC.

In that scenario, where the Big 12 does NOT get two BCS teams, ISU could go to Dallas, which I assume would make everybody in Ames VERY happy.

Just a theory. Don't make any travel plans because of it. A lot of football left to be played today. An ISU win changes everything, same with outcome of Bedlam game.

If So. Miss beats Houston, you can forget about either one of those bowls.

Big 10 is probably lobbying not to play a Big XII team.

    Re: TicketCity bowl out?

If the B12 doesn't get 2 in the BCS, it's looking even more unlikely ISU's destination is Dallas. C-USA will now fulfill all their bowl tie ins but one, and it looks like TicketCity will be able to choose Houston or SMU...

If Baylor and LSU win though, I bet B12 gets 2 in the BCS, making an at-large bid moot.

    Re: TicketCity bowl out?

If LSU wins I think Georgia drops out of top 14 and with the Big 10 title loser dropping back I think both Michigan and baylor get into top 14 and TCU into top 16. That makes it I think unlikely that the B12 gets that 2nd bearth.
