Ouch Brett, those INTs are killing the team!

I realize that INTs are part of the game and everyone throws one on occation but Meyer throws too many and the worst part is he has to be leading the nation the last two year for INTs returned for TDs. It feels like he averaging 1 returned a game. He had one today and another returned to the 4 yard line. The avarage on INT return yardage has to be pretty high too.

It seems whenever he throws one, it not only changes possession, but seems to kill us for 6.

If there is a fault for the 93 yard pick-6, its that we called for the slant too many times. It was working, but eventually they're going to sit on that route. Problem with the slant is that if it gets picked off (which it did twice), it often goes for a touchdown (first time it did, second time it almost did).

Re: Ouch Brett, those INTs are killing the team!

Well, I would agree that his INT's seem to be more costly than a normal INT would be. However, today he was put in tough spots. I can't remember the last time I've seen a team have so many 3rd and 9,10,11,12, etc. The defense has all the power in that situation making it real hard on the QB. We actually did OK on 3rd down today, all things considered. We've gotta be better on first down, though.

Its not like Rudd read the slant and nabbed it. Being at the game today it looked like it bounced right off Blythe.

Nah, our opponent's kicker is usually good for the PAT. I'd say it's good for 7.

The 93 yarder interception return was Blythe popping ball in air after getting poped. It was not Bret's fault. The question is why did a linebacker outrun our entire team?

Re: Ouch Brett, those INTs are killing the team!

Bret is way too mistake-prone for a senior quarterback that holds just about all our school's passing records. You are going to get picked off A LOT in major college football when you stare down receivers like he does. Bret might be THE most easy QB EVER to telegraph. What I would give to see a QB who can make decisions himself and check down instead of focusing on one guy. Learn to read a defense, but meh, it's prolly too late. I had fun watching Bret Meyer play for 3 1/2 year now, but I hate that I am saying I'll be happy to welcome the next starter. I cannot wait until next year when we might finally be a contender again.

Toledo lost 42-28 to Central Michigan and Kent State won. South Florida beat Auburn who beat Florida. With this many upsets, South Florida may go to 13 or 14.

    They actually went to 6.

Re: Ouch Brett, those INTs are killing the team!

This is what frustrates me the most. Brett is a SENIOR and his 4th year starting. He has 8 picks to 4 TDs and 3 of those came against Toledo. His QB rating is now 2 points lower than his freshman year and he's still making mistakes that you would not expect out of a 4 year starter.

I don't know how long of a leash he has but at some point you have to think that Arnaud starts seeing more snaps because we aren't going to a bowl this year and Meyer is not the future so might as well see what Arnaud is made of.

Even the Nebraska fans were saying things like "seems like that Meyer kid has been at ISU forever" and "isn't #1 your best player? why don't you throw to him more?"

I'm starting to see why blythe doesn't get the ball very much anymore. watching him at the Nebraska game really solidified it, he doesn't run sharp routes he's neither quick nor fast, and during at least thi game his catching in traffic skills were very good. Blythe used to be our best receiver but now i like sumrall and hamilton a lot better

it frustrates me more that it is Bret and not Brett and you guys still cant get it right .... Bret Meyers INTs this week werent all his fault. I didnt like the 93 yarder simply because Meyer threw it to Blythe on a slant when it was like 3rd and goal on the 13 we need to be going for the endzone in that situation instead of throwing it to blythe who had defenders all over him also on the other INT.. Marquis Hamilton was WIDE open.. Oh well, we are improving

Good points: I've been questioning the Blythe hype for awhile now. It will be interesting to see how the rest of his career plays out.

I swear he was quick and had good hands... I think that was him. Wasn't that Blythe? Heck maybe not...

Re: Ouch Brett, those INTs are killing the team!

33 hit on a good point, Bret doesn't see the field well. How many times in a game does he miss a guy wide open? I know you are going to once in awhile but there have been some times the crowd is practically screaming it in unison because someone is so wide open but Bret isn't even looking that way to see it.

It's one of those things that its a bad enough habit to lock onto receivers from the snap that Bret may never break out of it and look for a check down once in awhile since he's been doing it for 3 years now. I'd like to think we have some of the better receivers in the conference and we do have a lot of depth at the position where Moses, Franklin, and Bates are our 4-6 guys.
