Dish/DirecTV customers who have Mediacom internet

Mediacom has apparently gotten lazy about blocking TV signals to internet-only customers. A couple people told me it was because the TV filters interfere with the internet signal and they don't like to use them if they don't have to and secondly most of their channels now require a decoder box anyway.

On a whim I checked to see if I was getting any TV signal through my Mediacom pipe and found I was getting a handful of their unscrambled channels INCLUDING Mediacom 22, which is the only thing I care about having anyway. So I ran a line to one of my TVs and was able to watch the game Wednesday night.

Might not work for all of you, but it is worth checking, you might get lucky.

I know many many years ago this was the case but then they came though and put filters on and it stopped.

As I said above, they have gotten away from using the filters because they interfere with the internet signal and also because most of their channels require decoders now. Also, even if you have filter installed they tend to burn out after a while. You might find some channels getting through.

I have MC internet only and can confirm this. I get channels 63-73, plus all locals in HD and Mediacom 22.

Yup, we did this at my first apartment years ago, just got internet and cable came through clear as day... My girlfriend refused to pay for cable, but had her work pay for Medicaom internet... On a whim a couple of months ago I hooked up her TV to the cable, sure enough full cable plus local channels in HD.

My sister learned that if you set your tv to a channel with a filter while your not watching it, like while turned off while at work, it will burn out the filter over a couple months. She gets a lot of premium channels and her bill is cheaper than my direct without premiums.

Has anyone else done this on this board?

Comment: Did your sister luck into this devious method in order to avoid the bill? or did she have some previous expertise?

Pure luck. Noticed a channel that they didn't receive was slightly visible before leaving for a few days, left without changing the channel and when they turned the tv on they noticed an improvement in the picture. So she set the tv to that channel every morning when she wnt to work and at night when she went to bed. Slowly it kept improving.

Have you talked to your sister in the last 5 years? I didn't think a cable company still existed that had analog premiums.

Also, tuning your TV to a channel to "burn out" a filter is total BS.
