Re: Williams Blog: McGee is the perfect 6th man

I love McGee. He is going to be a fan favorite for sure. He plays extremely hard and has a great stroke from 3.

McGee is probably one of my more favorite players on the team. I think he could be a better starter than off the bench though.

I think fans care way to much about who is starting and who is coming off the bench, and not enough about minutes played and the value of a spark off the bench.

Why wouldn't you start your most high energy guy?

So he can bring energy off of the bench.

Some guys make better starters and some guys thrive off the bench. If a starter warrants replacing TM will probably be the guy.

    It's in CW's story.

You would think that it would be nice to get that spark in the start of a game to set the pace.

See Jason Terry and the Dallas Mavs.

I think McGee should play more like 25-28 minutes a game, provided he can play that long with the same intensity. But I like his spark off the bench.

Fans care about getting the best players on the floor.

I tend to agree at this point, though having a strong bench is important. However, as defense is currently this teams weak point, I like having the best defenders in the game starting to set the tone at the outset. Same for the all-important first minutes of the second half.

Scotty would also be a great contributor off the bench.

Kind of what I'm getting at. Not saying he's a bad player, just saying that he isn't a point guard and can't make his threes anymore it seems (unless royce is blocking for him).

Re: Williams Blog: McGee is the perfect 6th man

McGee has the potential to be both a high-volume and high-efficiency scorer, which is a pretty great combination to have. Plus he's a great rebounder for his size and seems to be a good defender.

Just a great guy to have on the team.

Re: Williams Blog: McGee is the perfect 6th man

I love McGee, and I like the concept of bringing in a guy who can provide a spark off the bench. However, if the effort on the defensive end of the floor continues to be suspect, I also like the concept of benching someone who isn't working as hard as they could as a message that it needs to improve.
