    643 more yards

We are currently sitting at 2,357 passing yards

    Jantz-1332
    Barnett-1025

We need 643 more yards over the next two games to reach 3000 yards. Thats roughly 322 yards a game. I think that in todays style of football 3000 yards should always be the goal for a season.

To put it in perspective as a team last year we had 2091 yards passing as a team. The year before we had 2401. We should end the year at around 2700 which is respectable but I believe we can do better.

    Re:643 more yards

We also do not have one receiver on our roster that is comparable to any receiver in the top 10. In the top 15 WR's, BU has 3, OSU has 3, TAM has 2, TT has 2, OU has 3, MU had 1, and ISU has 1 (Money is #15). TAM and TT 3rd WR are only 17 yards behind Money. Which one of our WR's would you keep instead of trading for one of the top 10. My point, it's not all on the QB when the passing yards are not there. Name one QB in our conference that would throw for over 3000 yards with our current WR corp.

I don't want to bash our QBs but there has been a lot more there than we have taken advantage of. Our receivers are getting open and we miss them sometimes. 3000 yards have been there.

And not to bash our WR's, but there have been a ton of drops. It swings both ways with our offense almost all season.

Likewise, what top passing team would our QB's start for?

Our passing futility is a group effort- QB, WR, and OC.

    Re: 643 more yards

I'd rather have 2,000 yards passing and 2,000 yards rushing as a team. That means balance. Your not relying on one thing to get your offense going. Iowa State needs a good quarterback and good running back to make this all happen.
I personally feel that Barnett is the answer at qb. ( I was pro Jantz before and now have seen the light). The running game is needing some work. White isn't doing bad but he's not consistent like we need. Give me a stud back to go along with Barnett and life in Ames will be good.

    Re:643 more yards

OSU, BU, TAM also have 1000 yard rushers. Whaley for OU and Stephens for TT were headed there before injury. So, those high passing yard teams are also very good up front. Our top rusher JW is ranked 10th. Our second leafing rusher JB is 20th. We have had injury up front and played a lot of young guys. Our offensive production has exceeded what it should have with all of the adversity we have had this season.

Our top rusher was also not a feature back until how many game into the season?

    Re:643 more yards

We average 395 total ypg. LSU averages 386 total ypg. They are 100th in passing yards, 18th in rushing. We are 71st in passing, 37th in rushing. Big difference, they are 2nd in points against, we are 81st. So more passing yards may be a good thing but we definitely need to improve the number of points we give up. We don't have a Big 12 team that can beat them. They don't give up points and our teams can't stop the run. More passing yards isn't the final answer.

A lot easier to do that when your offense does not have 3 or more turnovers in 8 out of 11 games.
Relatively speaking, the defense has out-performed the offense. If the offense were playing as well as the defense, we would be better than 6-5.

    Re: 643 more yards

The offense needs to play well enough to score more points than the other team. Just ask Tom Brady or Tim Tebow.
