ISU still has to play #11 K-State and will probably jump to #1 after next weekend. How in the hell does ISU have 6 wins?

The reason Kansas is number one is because they didn't have to play themselves to bring down their strength rating

From 1-9 the big 12 is the toughest gauntlet in CFB. But I can't feel sorry for KU. They can be last place in the conference for the next 50 years for all I care.

I said 7-5 at the beginning of the season. If we don't beat K-State, this season will turn out to be a HUGE disappointment.

    It's funny but true.

Let's say the Big 12 isn't the best conference. Let's say the SEC is. Looking at it logically the Big 12 is STILL tougher to go undefeated throught even if it's not as good as the SEC.

    The reason?

The SEC just played a schedule of MOSTLY FCS schools last week while the Big 12 was beating each other up with the nine game schedule.

While the mighty SEC was busy being tested with Furman and Georgia Southern. The Big 12 was playing...itself...the #1 or #2 conference.

Even if we're #2, it still means we're #1 this year because we play way less scrubs than the SEC.

Alabama played like crap against Georgia Southern last week. OK State did not have that luxury against a hungry ISU squad. If Alabama had played in Ames instead of a late season automatic home win against FCS Georgia Southern they're saying hello to LOSS #2 and goodbye to any NCG hopes!

How the hell does the SEC have the number 1 and 2 spots in BCS rankings?

Pretty simple, really. It's not as if the SEC is some slouch of a conference. The #1 team is undefeated, the #2 team's only loss is to the #1 team by a FG in OT, the #3 team's (OSU) loss is to a "bad" () ISU team, and the #s 4 and 5 teams (VT and Stanford) play in inferior conferences. It's no stretch the SEC owns the top two spots.

The computers love the Big 12. I think Okie State is #2 in the computers.

LSU played a hell of a non-conf schedule, and they look amazing. They'll be in the "greatest team of all time" discussions if they win out.

The thing is, Alabama is not as clear cut a #2 as the media is making them.

I think VaTech is a pretender behind a weak schedule, but I'm not convinced Alabama is substantially better than a number of other top ten teams.

LSU already beat Alabama...at Alabama. Time for another team to get a shot at LSU.

If Kansas DID play themselves, they would probably lose.

I don't disagree with your sentiment - I'd rather see LSU play OSU, VT, or Stanford instead of an Alabama rematch. But when people respond "why the hell are two SEC teams rated 1 and 2?", clearly they're not paying attention. Bottom line is there is no clear cut #2 this year, and I just see a lot of irony that it's mostly the same people that think the BCS is the ultimate answer at figuring out a national champion are the same ones that complain that the system puts two teams not only of the same conference but of the same division in the title game (yeah, yeah, the computers have OSU at #2, but the computers are only part of the system).

    Re: Strength of Schedule

I'll just point out that the Big 12 holds spots 1-10 in SOS. After that it's a mix of mostly SEC and Pac 12 teams.

EDIT: Also appears that the computers have us as the second best 6 win team out there behind Texas A&M (who they have ranked 12th.)

EDIT 2: Also appears that New Mexico is ranked at 170, just above Drake. Sad.
