ISU's SOS is up to #3 now. KU and A&M are 1 and 2 and idle next week while we play the #5 team. So ISU will likely have the strongest schedule in the nation this year going into bowl play.

I also pointed out in another thread that Virginia Tech has done absolutely nothing to merit being #5 and ranked in front of Stanford and Boise State among a dozen other teams they should be ranked behind. Their top 4-6 position in the human polls is 100% brand based and shows how the majority voters are total idiots who think based on brand and not based on results.

I'd take a 100% computerized BCS in a heartbeat but having it be 1/3 logical is better than nothing.

    Computer Rankings vs Coaches Poll:

Using a complete average of the BCS Computers and comparing to the Coaches Poll, positive numbers indicate the Coaches have rated the team higher than computers and thus from a computer poll stand point are over-rated, opposite for negative numbers. In order of current BCS ranking.

    LSU (0.00)
    Alabama (0.33)
    Okla State (-2.33)
    Stanford (2.00)
    Virginia Tech (8.33)
    Houston (2.00)
    Boise State (1.33)
    Arkansas (-2.83)
    Oregon (3.33)
    Oklahoma (-4.67)
    K-State (-8.17)
    S Carolina (-1.83)
    Mich State (7.17)
    Georgia (-0.33)
    Wiscy (7.67)
    Mich (0.00)
    Baylor (-5.67)
    TCU (1.83)
    Nebraska (1.33)

    Texas (-6.33)
    Missouri (-9.17)

Iowa State has a computer average of 26.17 however has no votes, aTm has a computer average of 24.33 and has no votes.

    Re: Computer Rankings - 11/27

So what does the above comparison show? I've highlighted the outliers for convenience, essentially those teams with a high positive rating are ones that the Coaches Poll has ranked much higher than their computer ranking would indicate. These can be considered over-rated or positively biased teams:

    Virginia Tech
    Michigan State
    Wisconsin

Those with the large negative rating are teams which the computers think highly of while the Coaches Poll ranks them lower, either for a 'bad loss' or recent loss, etc... Those teams include:

    Kansas State
    Baylor
    Texas
    Missouri

To a lesser extent, but teams like Oklahoma, Arkansas and even Oklahoma State have this bias ongoing.

To sum it all bluntly, human polls have a bias of believing the B1G & ACC is better than it actually is while believing the Big 12 and other SEC teams are worse.

    Computer Rankings vs Harris Poll:

Using a complete average of the BCS Computers and comparing to the Harris Poll, positive numbers indicate the humans have rated the team higher than computers and thus from a computer poll stand point are over-rated, opposite for negative numbers. In order of current BCS ranking.

    LSU (0.00)
    Alabama (0.33)
    Okla State (-2.33)
    Stanford (3.00)
    Virginia Tech (7.33)
    Houston (2.00)
    Boise State (1.33)
    Arkansas (-1.83)
    Oregon (3.33)
    Oklahoma (-3.67)
    K-State (-8.17)
    S Carolina (-2.83)
    Mich State (5.17)
    Georgia (1.67)
    Wiscy (6.67)
    Mich (0.00)
    Baylor (-5.67)
    TCU (1.83)
    Nebraska (1.33)

    Texas (-5.33)
    Missouri (-9.17)

Sort of what is expected, the same teams are showing the biases in the Harris Poll as the Coaches Poll. Overall the B1G is still over-rated while Big 12 is under-rated, a mix of other teams also over/under in spots.

That is why we have bowls. To prove who is better....

To an extent yes, but how often do you actually see teams matched up with their closest partner in another conference (ie. SEC #4 vs Big 12 #4 or B1G #3 vs Big 12 #3) that can give you an accurate comparison?
