    OT: Line Drive OUCH!

Warning: if you have a queezy stomach for blood you might get a little grossed out by a few seconds of this. This guy takes a line drive to the face playing 3B in a softball league. Just ran across this the other day when searching YouTube for various things. The fat guy on the other team I hope got his ***** beat down after someone saw this as he was laughing and making fun of the guy who got hit. Granted the guy playing 3B was playing a little shallow but never cool to see something like this happen.

i dont think the big guy was that big of a deal. the guy at the end that says he felt great for hurting someone is questionable. really nothing to make you queezy though.

I know, but I would feel like crap if that happened when I was hitting, especially in a co ed game...

Only time I've seen a girl playing 3rd base is if she looks like Rosie O'Donnell.

    Re: OT: Line Drive OUCH!

A few of the guys on the team that hit the ball acted pretty tasteless IMO. The guy hitting ball saying it felt great to be the guy who hit the ball is classless. The fat guy was about as bad.

I played competitive solfball for 7 yrs at first base. I took a line drive that bounced up and hit me right in the forehead. Didn't cut, but I had the indentation from the stitching on the softball in my head for a week. Another time I took a line drive in the wrist that swelled up right now, thought for sure it was broke but just was bruised pretty badly.

    Re: OT: Line Drive OUCH!

This one here shows you how classless they are. Make a catch at 1B before you go bonkers like they did. If you see some of other videos they have posted there are a couple ones of some old drunk guy playing with them.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr9PbQQaYt4"]YouTube - THE UMPIRE STRIKES BACK - BAD CALL COVER UP[/ame]

They are trash, and that field is one of the worst I've ever seen. The fat guy was saying "what goes around comes around, hallelujah!" and "who cares we got the win." I'm sorry but that's just classless regardless. I'd feel pretty bad if I hit a guy like that.

We play a lot of co-rec and my GF plays 3B mostly. She played in college and is very good there but she also knows to play several feet behind 3B where that guy was about 4-5 feet in front of it. Nothing wrong with a female 3B if she can field the position well. You have to play 2 females in the infield and your SS is likely a male so unless you have a female that you trust to catch bad throws at 1B a lot of teams play female 3B actually.

Oct. '05...I'm the third base coach...Mrs. 22 is on third base. Our strongest hitter rockets one down the third base line - right at her head.

Amazingly, she got her right hand up to deflect the blow. The ball (we assume) hit her hand, which drove her hand into her face - exactly on her right eye.

She ended up with only a stress fracture in her hand and a very swollen eye with what was assumed to be some cracked sinus bones.

    A very, very scary day.

    Re: OT: Line Drive OUCH!

The last game my dad played the team had a woman playing 2nd, he rocketed a one hopper right off her head, she went down and they eventually life-flighted her off the field... I played a co ed for a year and pretty much just tried to place the ball or hit it out. I play mostly 16 inch now but people ask me to fill in on their co ed teams from time to time... Sometimes I will play in the 11" 14" two ball co ed games

It looked like the guy that hit him was being sarcastic when he said it felt great.

On the subject of Beer League Softball (aka slow pitch), I always crack up when I see the guys who go all out to look like major leaguers with the pants, black strips under their eyes, elbow guards (yes, I've actually seen a few guys wear elbow guards up to bat in slow pitch!!!), wrist bands, t-socks, bat bags to carry their slow pitch softball "equipment", batting gloves, etc. They're usually the ones who act stupid pr*cks, kind of like fatty from the video.

    Re: OT: Line Drive OUCH!

Playing any sport is at your own risk but you can't let that stop you just because you might get hurt. I've broke an ankle sliding into a base. I'm more careful about it now obviously but I still play and I still will slide when it's a close play although I got in head first more now.

I think pitching is the most dangerous spot on the field because you are the closest home plate and have less time to react. Anywhere in the infield you have the potential to get hit by a hard shot wether you are a base runner or playing defense. You just have to pay attention all the time so you can at least react and protect yourself by getting out of the way or getting a hand or glove up to proctect yourself. I've taken grounders and bad throws off the shins several times and that's no fun either but its part of the game. I've never seen someone get hit so bad in the face like the video though.

Oh I hate the pants wearing teams too. Get some knee high socks if you are scared to slide in shorts! We always are gunning to beat the teams with the "baseball team" looking uniforms. It's rec slow pitch for crying out loud...

    Re: OT: Line Drive OUCH!

A few summers ago there was a guy who actually punched an umpire at a Sunday night co-ed rec league. It was amazing. He didn't like the call so he just hauled off and jacked him. Ambulance came and took the ump away and sheriff deputies took the other guy away. It was all over the news. It happened on those fields on the east side/Altoona. Yeah, we don't play there anymore.
