    Reply All button

Anyone else work for a large company and have an idiot who hits reply all to a mass e-mail? We just had someone hit reply all to be taken off of a distribution list because it was filling up her inbox. Anyone else see the irony in this?

    So annoying.

We had a company wide email a while back that got down right hilarious. There were probably about 30+ emails that replied to all. Even the people that said 'Stop hitting Reply to All' in the email used the reply to all button.

    It was comedy gold!!

    Re: Reply All button

Not for work but it drives me nuts to be on an ISU list serve for a club. When people want to be removed from the list serve, they reply to the email asking to be removed. Little do they know but if you reply to the email sent, it sends an email to everybody on the list serve! Even though you don't hit "reply all" and only hit "reply", it still sends an email to every single person on the list serve. It says at the bottom of the email how to unsubscribe. I sometimes wonder how people are in college.

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

We had that, too, and my company is huge. Turns out there was some software glitch, and Outlook interpreted "Reply" as "Reply All." Still funny, especially after it went on for hours, and the last folks to the party weren't swift enough to realize there was something wrong, and kept up the party.

Yes. We have crappy Lotus Notes. Anybody have one of those morons that goes to his trash looking for a deleted email among thousands, then accidentally hits restore all? There is no warning box to pop up asking if you are sure you want to do this.

We have at least one of those moron in my office who has done it 3 times now. Sometimes I hate myself.

    Re: Reply All button

In grad school once someone did a reply all to the school list on an email meant for a particular person, while criticizing another on the list. Oops. And that person was a student criticizing a professor.

I'm sure it happens all the time, but a reminder to be careful.

Yeah, the good old "let me reply to all and tell everyone to stop replying to all."

We had an infamous one that went on ALL DAY a few years ago. You should have to take an intelligence test to procreate, drive a car and be in charge of a reply all button.

This is why your email admins should not allow everyone to send to all staff.

Wow, people still use listservs? I remember those from way back in the late 80s/early 90s. Talk about a classic anachronism. I thought those went out with UUCP bang paths.

    Re: Reply All button

So about a month ago someone hacked or somehow got all the @iastate.edu emails that started with a j and spammed them for about an hour. Mixed in with these spam emails was probably 100+ people replying all or replying to the listserv which you guessed it contained everyone with a netid that started with a j. That night sucked.

    Re: Reply All button

Why am I getting this e-mail? Please remove me from this list!

I work for a very large company and we had one of these reach at least 100 replies a few weeks ago. It was pretty funny to see factory managers replying back saying "Please Take Me Off This List" or 50 people replying saying "STOP REPLYING TO ALL" while of course replying to all.

Actually I remember this happening occasionally at ISU. E-mail was pretty new archaic back then. Fancy programs like Outlook etc weren't commonly used. The e-mail defaulted to reply all so it happened every once in a while that someone would reply a list like the engineer college mailing list. The would usually die out pretty quick. My roommate was a liberal arts college guy and they had one happen on their mailing list that lasted for days.
