    My Rant on Husker fans

    Juice blogs The Cyclones

I probably opened a can of worms with this blog post but even though I know for the most part we'll probably get treated well in Lincoln I still can't stand "Go Big Red!" and other obnoxiousness that comes out of that place. I am looking forward to the trip though, I've never been to Memorial Stadium.

Re: My Rant on Husker fans

I was in Lincoln two years ago when we played there and had a funny experience in the stands. A bunch of Cyclone fans were jingling their keys up high making some noise for the team. A husker fan next to me said out loud at them "what are those, the keys to your tractors..huh huh" I wasnt sure who was insulted in that one.

Re: My Rant on Husker fans

I read your blog. Even though this is your first visit, you have correctly pointed out somethings.

The tailgating does suck. The parking situation is bad. I am sorry to hear about you having to store your RV for this game.

My recommendation is that you do the majority of your entertaining in Omaha. Make sure to check out a couple of places:

    -The Green Onion
The ultimate 1950s lounge. Inexpensive, and your mixed drinks are 90% alcohol. Very high octane ratings

    -The Upstream
Two locations in Omaha one in the Market, and one out west. In my opinion it is what RRBC & Court Ave. should be aiming to be. One of my favorite nightspots west of the Mississip.

I know it's fun to rag on NU fans. There are some ignorant dummies, but please believe me when I say that on the whole they are some of the most courteous, dedicated and knowledgeable football fans I have met. They are trumped only be the Alabama fans I met at the Independence Bowl. They are boisterous and have a lot of pride, but I've never been railed upon by any Bugeaters. In fact I think they have a somewhat fond perception of Iowa State. Several NU fans are my friends, and many of them have said that we have a better game day environment, at least outside the stadium and off the field.

CU fans, that's a whole other story.

Re: My Rant on Husker fans

My biggest gripe? they think they are the greatest fans in the country b/c they've sold out memorial stadium like eight gazillion games in a row and they show so much passion for the team. The state of NE, collectively, has an inferiority complex, and their answer to the nation for showing their greatness is their football team. Notice on another thread for team entrance youtube videos, NE has Keith Jackson on it pimping them. Notice their alumni association names, it's "Oregonians for Nebraska", or Coloradoans for Nebraska... they like to make it sound like they there are thousands of random people in other states rooting for them, all the while those people are former natives or alums in those other places. I lived there for 4 years, and honestly, they take it almost to a cult like level. I never have been to a place where the whole state takes a loss so personally, like it was going to change life itself. Memorial stadium is pretty impressive, but I really don't think NU/mem. stadium is in its own class. Ever heard of the SEC? A majority of their stadiums hold as many, if not more people, have long lived traditions, huge video boards, and most of those schools fans are just as rabid as NE fans... its basically a league full of fanbases as loyal as Neb.

The best chant ever was when ISU beat them in Ames for the first time a few years back...."New Big Red." was the chant!

AMEN! i lived there for way too long. hope i never go back. (and here goes my rant.)

you think they are arrogant now or when they come to Ames...go live there and listen to them talk how Sam Keller is going to win the Heisman...IN MARCH! i cant count how many times i reminded them that he wasnt even the best quarterback on ASU not to mention the best player in the nation. finally i googled "2007 heisman candidates" and printed the first 4 articles that popped up. all four were good sources (SI.com, ESPN.com, etc) and none of them had Mr. Keller even mentioned in their top 20. i put the article on the desks of about 5 coworkers...they didnt talk to me for a week. i loved it.

Best example of going off the deep end is firing a coach (Solich) who went 9-3 but that wasn't good enough and the idiot they have running the show now has not done any better plus good booted out of Oakland so he hasn't had a great track record either. I'm just glad that they finally get a taste of what mediocre is like when they used to think 2 or 3 losses was the end of the world.

yep, their fans thought their dominance in the mid-90s would last forever... NU did have an incredible run of success and consistency during the devaney/osborne era's, but like every program in every sport, success comes and goes... they were just riding on an extended wave of success, and too bad Frankie had to get canned coming of TO's era.... although I was ecstatic watching K-State roll the huskers in '03 in Lincoln....

Roja's is right by the Upsteam out West and Lazlos is down the road half a mile. TG Fridays and Red Robinm are nearby. Yes, it will not be as crowded as in Lincoln. Then you can drive down 31 and hit the interstate.

I hear that they have RV parking next to the baseball field. Lot 20, I believe, off Sun Valley Blvd.

That might be the Salt Dogs which we checked into and they charge $75 to park regardless if you stay overnight or not. Decided it was not worth the hassle.
