    Big 12 a 'weak conference'?

    http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/948649-college-football-week-12-shows-that-the-big-12-conference-is-weak

I would agree that some of our teams aren't doing as well as they 'should' have, but I wouldn't necessarily say that makes us a bad conference. There is still an incredible amount of talent and potential.

    Your thoughts?

Re: Big 12 a 'weak conference'?

What was the Big12's non conference record again? I don't think they mentioned that in the article. Also, the ESPN conference power rankings have us at 2 compared to the Big 10's 4th. We also still have 3 teams in the BCS top 10

Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd

Parity is often mistaken for lack of quality. The Big 12 is an incredibly strong conference. That's how teams like Baylor and Iowa State can beat teams like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State - the top to bottom strength of the conference itself.

Re: Big 12 a 'weak conference'?

People are forgetting all that the Big 12 did in the pre-conference games... Just goes to show the "what have you done for me lately" culture we are in. Besides, what conference IS good? Even if you look at the SEC West, sure you have those top three, but then you have Miss St, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama's protected rival Tennessee, LSU's protected rival Florida all sucking... Not to mention Kentucky and Vandy on their schedules.

The author of this awful article is also a self-proclaimed lover of the SEC... which is all you need to know

This guy is an idiot. "Based off preseason rankings…no, the Big 12 is not that tough of a conference." You're basing this on preseason rankings? Like the ones they do before anybody has played any games? Really?

Exactly. Bleacher Report is the biggest waste of bandwidth ever. I can't believe Google still allows it to show up in "news" searches.

Re: Big 12 a 'weak conference'?

As I've said other places, this is one of the reasons I prefer computer rankings for college football. Though it can be a sign of mediocrity, having a bunch of near-.500 teams in a conference doesn't mean they're all poor. It means there's decent parity. They could all be top 40 (which, other than Kansas, I think the Big 12 is).

The Big 12 has only lost 3 non conference games (thanks Mizz (Arizona State), atm (Arkansas), and Kansas (Georgia Tech)).

The SEC also has 3 non conference losses. Georgia lost to Boise State. Kentucky lost to Louisville. Auburn lost to Clemson.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

Although I agree with you, Big 10 fans often site this same reasoning.

Re: Big 12 a 'weak conference'?

I just heard on the Paul Finebaum show (from someone, sorry don't know who it was as I tuned in driving back from lunch) That the Big XII is the toughest conference according to all the BCS computers. Finebaum was actually a little upset by this and kept asking him, "According to who?" and the guy answered him twice, "The computers."

I mean I don't put a lot of stock in it, but honestly, looking at the SEC, their top is the cream of the crop, but from top to bottom I don't think they have the caliber of teams that the Big XII does this year. Add a 9 game conference schedule to that and it makes for a doozy of competition. To this point. As long as we don't get blown out in the next two games, it would be hard to not put us as one of the best 6 win teams in the nation. A lot can change betwen now and that first weekend in December too. Other than Kansas, I can't think of a team this year that should be a gimme for any team.

True, but how often can they site the non-conference success we had this year as well?
