    D-Line 2012?

Got a couple or four questions for those able to attend games and are keen observers:

    Defensive Line:

    1) How have Walter Woods and Brandon Jensen come along in the later stages of the season. Same for Henry Simon. All getting good playing time?

Dutch will be gone, but McDonough and Laing return. Sure hope the above three will make a tough rotation.

    2) Any word about how Pompey's rehabilitation is coming along?

    Defensive End:

    3) Any word about Rosey Maggitt's rehab?

    4) How much has David Irving been playing?

Hey, thanks. Some of we Cyclone fans work Saturdays and only get a view of the big picture, not the interesting details.

Woods played some snaps against OSU. Imo, he will not replace Dutch, but should be a solid rotation guy.

I liked what I saw from Jensen last spring as a true freshmen. Hopefully he is still progressing.

I think we are going to see more of Henry Simon next year. He has quietly been giving us some quality snaps in there and should be even more next year. He'll be ahead of Woods and Jensen in my opinion, and even Pompey I think.

I'm a little bit bummed out that we had to burn Irving's redshirt. He had a batted pass and was in on a couple of hurries against OSU. Clearly he has a very high ceiling in terms of measurables, but I can't help thinking we will regret playing him this year down the road.

    Cheers

    Re: D-Line 2012?

I think Pompey should be fine. He has had all this year to heal and get going. I think our hope for a true NT is going to be Henry Simon next year. He has the size, and the strength according to the team to be the roadblock we want at that spot. Pompey has the size and strength as well, but if you look at his HS film, I think he is too good to keep at that spot. He strikes me as a penetrating DT that will rack up some sacks at that position.

I think that people will look back and wish we had redshirted Irving, but any future success he has will be greatly increased by the fact that he already has a ton of experience in actual games. Next year he was play many more snaps and he would be nowhere near as ready as he will be now if he had redshirted.

david irving batted a pass against OSU

    thats all i know

oh, and he nearly blocked a FG against iowa. (Not really, but it looked like he could stand at the back end line of the end zone and swat FGs... by how high he can jump)

    Re: D-Line 2012?

I think the Dline will be better next year. Starters will be Irving, JMD', Laing, and Maggit. Simon, Pompey, Woods, Jensen, Hayes, Nelson, and Scott will all see time. We are building the kind of depth here that ISU has never seen before. I could see Simon beating out Laing, and maybe even see Laing move back to DE.

I think Irving will be a monster next season. I fully expect him to be 280 lbs plus.

I think it's similar to Jake Knott and AJ Klein. They both didn't redshirt and got some valuable experience as true freshman and then the next year started and played well.

Along those lines, I am still baffled that Chizik felt it wise to play Dutch as a true freshman. Would love to have him next year.

Jake MCD played maybe his best game as a Clone last weekend. Wow.

Jake McD has been GREAT!!!!!!! Our Dline next year should be really really good against the run. I think we still have issue getting a pass rush unless Hayes is a beast

Hopefully Maggitt will be healthy. I think Rony Nelson, Irving, and Maggitt can be really solid eventually.

    Re: D-Line 2012?

I saw Woods, and even Jensen in the game yesterday. Woods did a decent job of taking up blockers. Jensen just needs some more time in the S&C. Hopefully he can blk up as quickly as Jake McDonough.

    Re: D-Line 2012?

I think the staff felt that Irving needed to get snaps this year because he will play a lot next year. They identified a future need/situation.

There's much more depth for rotation from the interior DL spots for next year. Irving has seen action as far back as the Texas game...its not like they burnt his RS for just a 10 snaps in a couple games.
