Can you plug an External Hard Drive into a TV and watch movies?

I'm just curious as I have 3 USB ports on my TV, but other than upgrading firmware, what is the point of having 3 USB ports?

I have an external hard drive with movies on it, can you play them from it?

I have an LG tv that has that capability. It's pretty sweet, just plug in a flash drive or external HD and you're good to go. Great for watching home videos of the kids. A Roku will also let you do that if you're tv does not but it's a bit more restrictive on the file types it will play.

I have a micca box that doesn't stream, but has both an SD slot and USB inputs. 60 bucks and it plays everything but wmv.

Do you push input? I thought I had the capability, but the hard drive spins, but nothing to select on TV.

You can do it with a xbox360 if you have one of those.

Yes, you have to select the input of the USB port but then it should display the video files and/or folders on the drive.

Your drive will likely have to be formatted in a certain way with a certain folder hierarchy also, you may want to check that in your TV manual.
