    Some Vindication

So I know there are a lot of threads on the game. There are some things I haven't seen mentioned that I think were notable in terms of some people maybe making up for some poor play earlier or at least countering some criticism. I have a list of a few people who did so.

    1. Tom Herman-I know we only scored 24 in regulation. That's not a lot of points, however I really liked the playcalling. We ran a lot of bubble screens as it seemed OSU was hell bent on stopping our run. The one bad bubble was actually luck by OSU as the defender was sort of confused and shouldn't have been where he was. Herman didn't go away from them after that. He just kept using them as OSU allowed. Obviously the wheel throwback in the first OT was a great call as well. I really liked the mix and the position he put Barnett in.

    2. LJ-He has been hammered for his personal fouls this year. Yes some of them have been bad but that same attitude also made Justin Blackmon call him the most physical corner he has played. Even when Blackmon was making plays, there were not easy and had more to do with him/Weeden than LJ. LJ made millions last night and was a huge part of our holding them to 24.

    3. Darius Darks-He didn't have a huge game but he made some tough catches in big spots. I appreciate that he has stuck around and has done his job.

    4. Money-He has been pretty good all year but that catch he made last night for our first touchdown was fantastic. He was also a blocking machine out there.

    5. Barnett-I think everyone sort of questioned if he had what it took from a playmaking standpoint. When we needed the throws, he made a bunch of them. The last pick wasn't all his fault and there were some great throws in there like the TD to Gary. He put that where it had to be.

    6. Gary-Remember when some thought he should be booted? After what had to be a somewhat tough week, this kid came out and outperformed Justin friggin Blackmon. I am really excited about him. It looks to me like he can do a little of everything. He does the short stuff well, gets YAC at a pretty high clip, and makes tough catches.

    7. Dline-We didn't put up a huge amount of sacks but our Dline made Weeden move his feet and when he has to move his feet, he isn't all that good. They also did there job in the run game. Things are looking up there.

    Re: Some Vindication

Although it's probably been mentioned in other threads already, I would add to your list the offensive line's performance.

Barnett had lots of time to throw, and when blocking did break down, there was already enough time for Barnett to know he had to run, or could get a pass off.

    Re: Some Vindication

I also agree about the play calling. It looked like it wasn't working early, partly because of dropped passes, and fairly good drives that ended with no points.

But they stuck with it, and it paid off. It started to look like OSU's defense wasn't sure what was coming far from "predictable" the way the ISU offense looked throughout the KU game.

One thing nobody has talked about: WR blocking. Sprung so many big plays on bubble screens and runs.

    Re: Some Vindication

My Tom Herman questions are gone. He really got that offense moving, and you can see real development in Barnett as a QB from week to week. It's clear to me that he's getting it done in terms of strategy, execution and player development. Apparently, recruiting must be working well, since his guys are making plays.

Not to mention the first play of OT. Throwback to the RB on the wheel route? Holy ****!

I thought the game plan and play calling on both sides of the ball was excellent last night. I can't think of one negative thing to say about it.

So frickin jealous of what they have in Ames. It's truly amazing what Fred has done coming in with 0 coaching experience.

Your second point about Money was right on. He's been a great blocker for us and we're going to miss him sorely next year.

All around, great points. Couldn't agree more.

That play was saved for exactly the right time.

    Re: Some Vindication

Barnett threw some pretty good passes that were not caught last night.

KO looked like he was a possessed roadgrader in the last drive. I think he is finally health for the first time all year.

Herman called a great game. After the KU game I was pretty disappointed in the pitiful offensive output. It could be that Herman thought that the offense could just run over KU. They certainly got run over today.

I remember think that maybe here was the difference when a kid was actually comfortable in this type of offense.

Had to help, but you can see the offense doing more as Barnett's starts go on. There has to be some development there from the coaches.
