Can't believe no thread on officiating following this game

Amazing what a win will do, especially when it is an amazing win. Actually thought the officiating was pretty decent last night, and there were lots of close calls. The game was able to be determined on the field by the players, which is what any player, coach, & fan should want.

Couple catches (Money's in endzone most notable), whether Barnett's fumble was recovered in the field of play, the missed field goal - but in the end, I think all were called correctly. On the one punt downed at the 1 yard line, I swore when an OSU dude swatted it away from the endzone that the ball touched the leg of an OSU player whose arm/hand was in the endzone. We came out & ran a quick-count sneak, and in the process got an offsides call (& I thought one of our lineman started a little quick). Also, the dead-ball penalty at the end of the first half was bizarre somewhat (don't ever recall seeing that happen before).

Probably the 1 I remember most was Lattimer flopped on some contact after the whistle by the OSU OT to draw a personal foul. Terrible acting, but got the call. Good to have one of these go our way & have our player being the one using his head (but still, it was poor acting - can't believe he got that call).

The subpar defense from the Cyclones gives the Hawks a chance to finally start to get their confidence rolling on offense. Both running the football and through the air.
*Breakout player prediction.... Everyone is going to have their eyes on Allen Lazard because of his hype coming out of H.S., but Derrick Willies steals the show.

In college, it doesn't matter where the play downing the punt is, just that the ball doesn't cross the plane.

missed calls both ways, evened out in the end for once. It only bothers me when it is skewed.

    This.

Lots of a close calls, lots of wtf calls for both sides, it definitely evened out, and I was glad to see us getting some breaks along with the big boy favorite as opposed to getting hosed all day.

In the end the biggest call on the missed field goal was the right one. In college the ball has to be completely inside the upright, if any part of the ball is crossing the plane made by the inside of the upright, it's not a good field goal. You can clearly see when the ball is crossing over the post that the ball is at least partially over the left upright, so the no field goal was the correct call.

The refs weren't out to screw us this game. Too many eyes watching with it being on national TV.

Re: Can't believe no thread on officiating following this game

The officiating seemed to be top-notch. I wonder if that is because this was the Big XII's top officiating crew. Does anyone know? I remember one of the CF writers (CW or BB?) mention that the featured Big XII game each week gets the conference's "best" officiating crew.

Only the ball matters in college. Pro's is different. In college you could stand in the end zone and not be a touchback.

Complaining about officiating last night would be like complaining about a hangover when you got to sleep with the whole cheer leading squad.

I thought the crew did a good job... some that could go either way. but a good night of calls both ways.

to the OP: we have won AND had the calls go against us ..... so it really isn't about winning to keep us quiet.

Very solid officiating crew last night. They definitely let the play on the field decide the game. Bravo officials!

Nope, just looked it up. Player doesn't have to establish themselves out of the endzone as long as the ball is out of it.

I have felt like officiating has been slightly against us all season until last nights game. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but maybe Alabama paid the refs for us so they would stop screwing us over???
