    Nebraska talks about Iowa St.

thought you guys would want to read this, first is Coach Callahan:

Nebraska Football Coach Bill Callahan - Huskers.com—Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

    On Iowa State

“Mentioning the Iowa game, it was interesting to see them (Iowa State) on film prepare for the game, because it’s an intrastate rivalry. It’s a huge game up there. You could see their players were very emotional. You could see them play at a much-improved level. They keep getting better, week-in and week-out. I think Gene (Chizik) has done an excellent job, for starting out and getting his team to capture a huge win. I expect the same type of effort level as they come down to Nebraska this week. Since I’ve been here, that game (Nebraska/Iowa State) has always been back-and-forth. They’re always very competitive and feisty. They’ll give it all they have because of the nature of the distance of the two schools. Looking at (Bret) Meyer, here’s a guy who has played 40 games in the Big 12. This is an experienced quarterback. I look at Todd Blythe, and he (Meyer) still has a lot of confidence in Todd. He goes to him (Blythe) in quite a few pressure situations and he has a lot of confidence in his abilities to catch the ball, to run the right route and to get open. They’re kind of a similar team in that, offensively, they’re in the I(-formation) but also in the gun. There are a lot of different formations. There’s a lot of creativity in that regard. They’re a little different, so they’re going to present us with a lot of new challenges. Overall, I think they’re a very capable team.”

On the film that he has studied most of Iowa State

“All of them. We use all of them in the breakdown. It just kind of struck me, the significance of that game (Iowa/Iowa State) and watching their players elevate. They felt that it was a very competitive situation for them and they take a lot of pride. Those kids are prideful kids. Just having competed against them in the last three years going to year four, I know they’re going through transition and this is their first year, but you can see on film, week-in and week-out, they’re making positive strides. Even though they dropped that game at Toledo, they had an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter that was very strong, and I thought they’ve shown improvement throughout the year in a very short time. The Iowa game really highlighted it. They did well against Toledo. I think Gene (Chizik) has addressed their kicking game in trying to improve that facet. It’s on film.”

I have to hand it to Callahan. He is saying all the right things and has Keller also saying the right things to prevent any bulletin board type material. (unlike KF and some iowa players)

Re: Nebraska talks about Iowa St.

Callahan's doing what coaches do: talk up the competition. But in this case, I think he hits the nail on the head. Our players have been showing improvement, and they'll hit the field against Nebraska ready to play.

I'm not predicting victory, but if we can keep our turnovers to 1 or 0, there's a good chance we'll be in a position to win at the end. Nebraska's offense is a wee bit scarier than Iowa's though, I can tell you that. We're going to have to put points on the board.

Fortunately, Nebraska's defense looks a wee bit worse than Iowa's. Like you said, if we can limit turnovers, and maybe cause a couple of our own, I'm actually rather optimistic.

Very true! We should be able to move the ball on the blackshirts, so the major factors for ISU will be limiting turnovers on offense and taking care of business on special teams.

Re: Nebraska talks about Iowa St.

ISU was the team that ended kNUs record of being a Top 25 team - now they have a chance to knock them out again. And this time, it would probably cost Callahan his job.

Keller is a pretty good spokesman, except for the ever present "you know." But the best part of the interview, was before Keller's with Steve Octavien (sp?) the "great" LB, who has been demoted. Very somber and very quiet. "We're 3-1 and people are booing us. We won the game." He also went on to say that the defense still hasn't bonded well and when hit in the mouth, they seem to play on their heals.

I live with these fans year round and even the radio personality's realize that this is a game that kNU MUST win. The pressure is on them - not ISU. We're suppose to be bad, they're suppose to be playing for a national title.

If the Clones can hang with them through the initial onslaught - this game could get interesting.

Re: Nebraska talks about Iowa St.

Our defense needs all the help they can get with a 317 pound Big Red offensive line. That means the offense needs to get the backparts into high gear to keep it a game. No reason not to score 21 or more.

I highly doubt that NU would fire Callahan this year after just signing him to a 4 year extension. Im sure if they wanted him gone bad enough, the boosters would step up and pay buyout, but maybe the AD will hold off on having him sign that til after the year.
