    Ankle Arthritis

    Curious if anyone else out there has dealt with ankle arthritis? Doc told me I have this (pretty severe) and that I need to stop all impact activities (footbal, bball, running). He warned me that if I don't ankle fusion will be my next step.

    Anyone had this and tried a treatment/therapy that worked? I'm just not very accepting of giving up those activities as a 30 yr old.

    Question: Do you crack your ankles a lot?

    Not on purpose. They will on occasion crack constantly as I walk.

    I've also suffered numerous ankle sprains in both of them.

    How about getting in contact with :Broadlawns Medical Center

    My ankle has been a candidate for total replacement for the last 15 or so years (osteoarthritis stemming from an ankle break). My extreme activities are restricted but I am managing to hang on without replacement. However, I may have to get it replaced soon and I will contact Broadlawns when I have to.

    Just asking because I crack my ankles a ton. Always kind of worried it might lead to arthritis.

    Mine was caused by a multitude of ankle sprains. It literally feels like a dagger being driven in to your joint when it's bad.

    Go here, and I am not kidding. I have numerous sports-related maladies, and they have saved me from elbow surgery twice...which all of the "specialists" told me was my only hope.

    Dr. Evans is brilliant and a nationally known orthopedic chiropractor. He is "mostly" retired so I don't know if he is accepting new patients, but he has a good group of associates. Dr. Ferezy is brilliant as well. I haven't had to go back for several years (if that tells you anything), so haven't kept up. The office is in West Des Moines;

    Admittedly, I'm of no real help, but I will say that ankle fusion sounds like a steaming pile of poo...however, if it comes to that, you need to turn it gangster with a limp and a blinged out cane.

    Best of luck to you, hope you find relief.

    No it won't.

    You should look for a new doctor, a second opinion may reveal that you are a candidate for joint replacement which should alleviate pain and maintain some level (probably decreased) of normal function. Fusion will limit you a ton and depending how active you are can lead to other issues in that leg down the road.
