    Exactly what I was thinking!

Losing this game, could happen to be the best thing for the team. Although, it does suck losing to an in-state team.

Re: Williams: Capital City Humbles the Cyclones

the defense was not very good in the second half, and that is still my biggest concern. I expect better shooting and better FT shooting in future games, so this I will agree on, but until the team starts to play defense as a team, better shooting is only half the answer.

Losing early in the season helps a lot too, learn early what needs to change, hopefully the adjustments are made ASAP.....

Re: Williams: Capital City Humbles the Cyclones

It was like the out of state players took this as just another everyday game. We cannot lose to Drake, Iowa, or UNI. That needs to be emblazoned. Beating Michigan is not that big a deal to the fans as beating Iowa. Looks like we do not have a Jake, Mike, Dendy, Godfrey, DG type that totally plays hard the whole game. With this many good players, we have subs if the starters get winded. McD type of subbing and Ben Jacobsen subbing keeps their players fresh.

It just looked like we have cancelled the fast break for this year. Thought that was to be the fun part of playing for CFH....

Sitting close to the court, it was obvious Drake's energy level was waaay above ours, and that part is unexcusable. But Drake has a nice little freshman point guard in Madison and the return of Rice and Alexander was huge, and when Simons hits like that, Drake will be tough at home. We rarely play well at Drake, the only big win I remember is with Stinson and Blaylock when we won by 30, and our guard play right now is the problem. Sledge either isn't the point guard we were hoping for, or is nowhere near ready to play. I'm sure the guard play will improve, and it has to improve a lot if we are going to have anywhere near the season a lot of us were hoping for.

Can't do much fast breaking when defense isn't making stops.

Really, we beat ourselves. The tons of missed layups is not an indication of a bad team. It's an indication that it just wasn't our night and I think they were subconsciously affecting our guys (sometimes if you think about something so much, you mess up on it even if that thing is second nature to you). I think it's a good thing we went through a game like this NOW and we can learn how to deal with a game like this in the future while it's happening and prevent a loss when the game is in reach.

Sadly, that part was obvious regardless of your proximity to the court.

Lol. You got that right. I watched some of the replay on tv today and our lack of energy also came thru the tube. I got a feeling Fred will have a much more intense and inspired team this Sunday.

I agree with this. I'll be surprised if the Clones don't come out pretty fired up on Sunday.

Re: Williams: Capital City Humbles the Cyclones

Will we come out with the full court press? I'd like to see us play not only a more intense (or intense at all) half-court defense, but full-court pressure.

If we have depth, I'd like to see us force the issue a little bit with pressure each way. Let's have some fun while we do some winning.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Re: Williams: Capital City Humbles the Cyclones

You can't run when the defense isn't getting stops, but you sure as hell can show some fire, take the ball out of the net, fire it in and sprint up the court. Maybe you get a few cheap points if the defense falls asleep, at a minimum you force them to do something.

All I saw was us casually take the ball, walk to the baseline, 1 hand it in bounds, walk up the floor, then stand around like we have a team full of Lebron or Kobe's. Everyone just looking to make a 1 on 1 move or a fade away 3. I haven't seen the stats, but I'll bet we didn't have many assists.

Drake, on the other hand, set a ton of screens, made quick cuts off the ball, moved the ball around, and just kicked our ***. Absolutely no way that should happen.

We have a guy in Tavon who supposedly dominated in games with a lot of high major players. How can he not be good enough to get on the floor against Drake? I say give him a shot, move Scotty back to the 2. And run some screens to get him open. Even when he didn't bring it up the floor, all our shooters just stand behind the 3 point line and wait. Never going to get good looks doing that.
