    ISU Daily 9/25/07

The Daily on 9/25/07 has a story about the five wrestlers moving up a weight class. Fanthorpe (133), Gallick (141), Mueller (149), Sanderson (157), and Bertolino (197). It doesn't mention who is going to step in at 125. Will Mark Kist step in at 125 or will Tyler Clark skip his redshirt season? Or maybe the senior Hanisch?

Here is my guess at the lineup:
    125 Kist
    133 Fanthorpe
    141 Gallick
    149 Mueller
    157 Sanderson
    165 Reader
    174 Becker/Artist
    184 Varner
    197 Bertolino
    285. Zabriske

Interesting... I'm not a huge wrestling guy, but how will so many guys moving up effect them competitively in a new weight class?

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

That depends. Did they put on muscle weight in the off season so it wasn't feasible to wrestle at their old weight, or are they moving up for over all team build-up, with some wrestlers wrestling above their weight (ie: 180 lb. wrestler wrestling at 197). I think it's probably the former, but until we see them wrestle, I'm not sure.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

I thought I remembered from last year that some of the young wrestlers were having trouble making weight. Hopefully these moves will let them be able to develop into stronger wrestlers.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

It depends on how Okie State comes out this season. I think ISU and OSU are the teams to beat in conference this year, and MU is right up there as well. It all depends on how the new wrestlers come along.

As far as NC... I still think Minny's the team to beat, and if they come out and wrestle like they should, we would have to be flawless IMO. But again, we'll all know better where everyone stands as soon as November rolls around.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

Askren is gone from Mizzou right? That's probably going to hurt them a lot. Are the young guys looking to make a leap this year? They were all very solid, but will any of them be national medalists? Thanks,

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

It's way too early to tell how they'll wrestle at the end of the season. I think the guys on our squad that have the most solid shot as of right now are: Varner, Bertolino, and Zabriske. We're very solid at the heavy's, pretty solid in the light's and green in the mid's.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

I was just looking over the roster and we are only predicting one senior to be the top wrestler at his weight. And we have NO Juniors on the squad. I think this really shows how bright our future could be in wrestling.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

I've been hearing that the guys at our lower weights have gotten bigger which brought about the bumping of the weights. Apparently, Bertolino is much better at the projected weight than he was at 174 last season. Either way, the team will be in a similar position as last year in that they are not projected to win either the Big 12 or a NC. However, if they improve throughout the season at the same rate as last year, big things could be possible.

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

this lineup is absolutely solid up and down. we should be pretty good like everyone said its tough to tell now if a Big 12 championship or National championship is in sight but i would say both oour given the fact the mst of last years team is back minus backes and the paulsens but that really shouldnt hurt us too much

    Re: ISU Daily 9/25/07

I think we will be a better dual meet team than a tournament team. Few weak links, but only one wrestler (Varner) that will be in the top 2 or 3 at the beginning of the season. Hopefully Cael can coach these guys up and they can outperform expectations, but we won't be expected to be in the top 3 nationally at the beginning of the season.

I was kind of hoping beyond hope that Zabriskie was going to cut down to 197 and we were going to have this ultimate fighting freshman dude at heavyweight.
