    If stars aligned

And we became bowl eligible and got selected to play in the Texas Bowl vs a b1g team

    1. Would you want to play Iowa again?
    2. Would a bowl want an ISU-Iowa rematch?
    3. How many would go?

I believe the Holiday Bowl took Nebraska and Washington last year after the Huskers blew them out earlier in the year so a bowl has selected two teams that have already played previously that year. Who knows if they would take two from the same state.

Before someone tells me to not count my chickens before they hatch, I'm not predicting this to happen, just wondering if it could.

No way. We play Iowa EVERY YEAR. Neither team has anything to gain by playing one another in a bowl.

My answer is yes but I think conventional wisdom is that an all Iowa bowl would have weak viewership so therefore would never happen.

No, probably not, and NO. One of the cool things about bowl games is to play teams that you normaly don't get to see. I thought playing Pitt and Alabama in bowl games was great.

    Re: If stars aligned

No rematch. We already played them, we won. If we get to the situation of being in a bowl game, we need to play against a team that we have not already played this year. That being said, I will be going to a bowl anywhere in the south. If it is in NYC, there is no way I would go.

But keep in mind that you're talking about a pretty weak viewership regardless. Iowa/ISU would probably have more interest than Purdue/ISU or whatever.

    Re: If stars aligned

I would not want to play them again. As we all know, that was our superbowl back in September and we've gone downhill since then, while Iowa has continued to get better each week. They are playing at a championship level now and would absolutely destroy us if they played us again.

Outside of isu and iowa finishing 1, 2 in the bcs standings, the two teams will NEVER be matched up in a bowl game.

This year I'd seriously love a shot at Auburn. Even if that means Shreveport.

Do bowls play the same viewership games that conferences do to get paid more the next time around by ESPN/ABC/FOX? I always thought what mattered with a bowl game was number of butts in seats and number of people that stick around a few days to inject large amounts of money into the local economy.

I agree with you but I'm not sure the Texas Bowl selection committee would agree. I think locally the Texas Bowl having the state of Iowa show up to Houston would be a pretty smart move but I think the committee would assume that most Cyclones/Hawkeyes fans aren't interested in a rematch (since there will be one anyway in IC next season). I am but I'd guess if we did a poll I'd be in the minority.

If this is the case a UI/ISU rematch is a no-brainer. The state of Iowa would take over Houston for a couple days.

    Re: If stars aligned

I would lean towards no also but there is an outside shot that we could both be in that pecking order.

Like someone else said, I would argue that an Iowa-ISU rematch would get more attention vs. a ISU-Illinois or an Iowa-Baylor game, especially with the way the first game went. I don't think to many people have that bowl circled on their "must watch" list regardless. Both schools have a history of traveling well.
