I apologize ahead of time that the spacing does not hold from a word document. We have 4 nonconference games from each season with the stats showing the other team first versus Iowa State second for the stat.

UNI stat game is eerily the same between the two years. They passed the same, the turnover margin was in their favor 3-0 in 06 and 4-0 in 07, and first downs were the same. We won last year; we lost this year with one more turnover. Punting was better this year.

UNLV and Kent state were essentially the same game with more turnovers in 2007. The other team returns the interceptions better than our linebackers. Not much difference in teams except we won last year and lost this year.

Iowa game this year (as opposed to last year) was more defensive prowess on our part although we lost turnover battle. The defense won the game as our offense did not score a touchdown. We were lucky to have six field goal attempts.

Toledo game was a win last year and a lost this year due to poor special teams play. Defensively we were better this year, but lost the turnover battle again.

This year the defense is holding yards down and offense is gaining a few more, but losing the turnover battle is losing games. The teams we played rarely made turnovers; we are good for 2 or 3 every game. Rushing is no better. Passing is no better, just a shorter passing game. Winning the yardage battle but losing games.

That, Holmes, is the problem. We need to play perfect turnover ball or we need to get their turnovers to win.

Bryceman, I see from several different posts that you like comparing stats and going over things like this....

I could of saved you about 15 minutes of research on this topic though... And you did hit the nail on the head.. After throwing out all that info...

TURNOVERS!!!!!!!!!! Coaches say it, players say it, fans say it. Hence all signs point to turnovers.

Don't mean to bash anything here, but ........

Re: Why are we losing? A Look Back

In 2006, we are losing in turnovers 5-4.

In 2007 we are losing in turnovers 9-3.

After 4 games, we have lost 4 more than last year and we have gained one fewer.

    Same players, more mistakes.

This is going to take time. I will never trash an ISU player, but our talent level is, overall, substandard, even by ISU standards. We have won 4 games in the past 2 seasons-all four of which we could have easily lost.

Did we pi$$ one away Saturday night? Absolutley. Do we have Zero margin for error? Yes indeed. We can't step on the field with anyone and win on talent alone (see UNI)

I think beating iowa gave some of our fans a false sense of where our program is.

It may get worse before it gets better, but I am confident that it will get better

Re: Why are we losing? A Look Back

I think we will see benefits later this year and if not right away next year. I have a feeling that some of these guys are trying too hard. They are uptight and afraid. They need to play loose and have fun.

We are 0 and 3 in games we are expected to win and 1 and 0 in games we are expected to lose. We should play pretty loose this weekend.

Re: Why are we losing? A Look Back

    Interesting thing I found...

    opponents:
    7 fumbles forced, 6 recovered

    ISU:
    6 fumbles forced, 1 recovered

So in 13 times that the ball has come loose, we've only recovered it twice!
