    Powerhouse Programs and Problems

... How long until another one gets exposed? AU (Cam), USC, Miami, OSU, and now PSU (to name the ones off the top of my head) have all shown they're either cheaters or disgustingly messed up. Makes you wonder if a truly clean program even exists any more. For you older posters out there, has there ever been a period of time that you can remember college sports being so screwed up?

PSU doesn't even belong in the same conversation as other athletic scandals. Everything pales in comparison.

As far as scandals in general, there always have been and always will be people who cheat, in any walk of life. Part of the problem that dogs human existence in general is that we tend to think of our travel through history as unique or extreme in some way, when we're merely repeating the same mistakes that have been made over and over throughout history.

I'm with pride. Same story, different time/place.

None of this is new. We're just finding out more about it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Re: Powerhouse Programs and Problems

PSU scandal could be a black eye on college football, but I think it's more of a microcosm of society as a whole.

There's a lot of sick ****s out there, and just as many people (who are arguably just as sick) ****s out there who value making a dollar and becoming famous more than doing the right thing.

A situation like this could have happened in any fortune 500 company, it just happened to be at a college football powerhouse. Granted, this definitely doesn't help the NCAA's image, but I don't necessarily hold them accountable. Not yet anyway. Who knows who all knew about what was going on....

Okay so where does this stand as far as bad things to happen to college football? Pretty far up there I'd imagine?

Not to mention, with the likes of facebook, twitter, ESPN, mesage boards, etc..., there is an endless amount of instant media that amplifies issues that even 15 years ago would have gone un-noticed outside of local markets.

This a million times. Guys getting illicit benefits isn't cool, but nobody is harmed. It's an NCAA issue rather than a legal issue because it is the NCAAs job to enforce amateurism. The Penn State thing doesn't even merit comparison to NCAA scandals. Nobody cries themselves to sleep in fear every night because Tyrelle Prior got a free tattoo. Nobody is staring down whether they have failed as a human being because they didn't report seeing Cam Newton take an envelope of cash.

Bingo! The Penn State scandal shouldn't even be in the same conversation as 'cheating' on/off the football field...
