    '08 Nissan Altima Transmission? Help

Ok Fanatics, looking for a little help here...

Wife has an 08' Altima, automatic CVT transmission. No warning lights, check engine, nothing on.

Running an errand today everything was fine. Short 5-8 minute trip. In store for about 30 min. Came back and went to drive to get dinner and on start up, car is making a strange "whining" sound. Drives fine, nothing amiss other than sound.

After dinner, drive about a block and suddenly gives it gas, nothing.

No accel, no revving. What the hell. Am I down a trans?

Now, after the car is shut down, and then fired back up, we could go another couple blocks before, bam, no response from gas pedal.

I had similar issue on an old Corolla in college, almost exactly the same (minus the whining sound) and it turned out to just be bad O2 sensors causing computer to get a bad gas mixture going. After a restart, things would run smooth again.

The odd sound though has me a little more worried. Anybody have any ideas.

And the best part is it is 5 months and/or 700 miles out of warranty. Hummels is fixing to get a shoe up their *** tomorrow. This adds to a litany of other (albiet non-critical issues) the car/dealership has had for us.

I also have an Altima CVT. Doesn't sound like a transmission. I replaced my Impalas transmission a few years ago and I could drive, but it wouldn't shift.

Re: '08 Nissan Altima Transmission? Help

The fact that the restart fixes (temporarily) leads me to believe it has something to do with the computer somewhere along the line...hopefully it's just a bad reading, and not a bigger part issue causing the computer to do something funky.

I've went to Hummels for about 5 years for 3 different cars with zero issues. Of course I've never had one break down either so that helps.

Hummels service is ok ... I have gone rounds with them on some things but we have always been able to come to an agreement that both of us have been happy with. We bought our Altima there in 2002 and we still have it.

Sucks that you are out of warranty but I doubt they will do much for you.

Ok, that seems like some positive news. All I could find in her documents was something about 3yr/36,000, but that may not have been the powertrain... Car is at 3.5yrs/36,700, so this would help.

Re: '08 Nissan Altima Transmission? Help

Our biggest issue with Hummels was the fact that they wouldn't replace a RECALLED AIR BAG sensor.

Their "tests" said it was fine, even though when I would ride in it, the air bag off light would come on. They wouldn't replace it, even with the recall letter.

Hummels said "You must not be sitting in the seat properly." What the hell?

Three trips and one call to Nissan Corporate HQ and they finally replaced it.

That is odd because you would think Hummels would be all over that. They fix it and send Nissan Corp the bill and get paid.

That sounds more like a bumper to bumper. I would think your powertrain is more like 50 or 60k at least but then again I don't know anything about Nissans.

Come on DT, quit raining on my parade.

Read the link and then get your *** over here for some NBA Jam
First, to provide you with additional assurance regarding your overall cost of ownership we have doubled the warranty period for the Continuously Variable Transmission in your Nissan. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost to you, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I'll read the damn link if you stop making it snow. And I'll gladly add on to my undefeated NBA Jam record.
