    Bye Week Question.......

As a fan, I ASSUMED bye weeks not only gave players a chance to rest and get healthy, but to also have 2 weeks to prepare for our next opponent.

However, I attended the Cyclone Luncheon earlier this year at the Holiday Inn in DSM before the Texas game and learned that the players pretty much had most of the week off and the coaches were on the road recruiting. While I agree that the coaches need to be recruiting at every possible chance, I was hoping they would actually getting ready for Okie State for 2 full weeks.

Was anyone else under the same impression I was? Everyone says a team has 2 weeks to prepare for their next opponent with a bye week but it doesn't appear that way.

    Re: Bye Week Question.......

The team still practices. From what I heard almost all of the coaches were on the road recruiting during our first bye week, practice was still held but was shorter. I assume the same is this week.

Can't a guy get a little rest? Amazing what a week of not pushing yourself can do for recovery.

    Re: Bye Week Question.......

I think the "Having two weeks to prepare" really plays more to injuries and nicks/bruises than anything else. I think the rest can help. We'll see if we hang around with Okie Lite, I'm not sure we could w/o a bye.

I'm sure the coaches are preparing throughout those 2 weeks even when they are out recruiting. The kids probably could just use some rest and healing.

I agree 100% that bye weeks are a great way to rest and get healthy. I guess I was just surprised that we don't take advantage of preparing at least a few extra days. Maybe not the full 2 weeks. Especially with #2 coming to town.

Not complaining one bit as I feel the players need their rest as well.

Wally said the players get bored if you focus on a team for more than a week in CW's article I believe.

    Re: Bye Week Question.......

I've also heard Coach Rhoads say that they try to keep the preparation schedule the same for every game. I took that to mean that the coaches want to keep the routine identical so that conditioning and concentration becomes automatic. I heard this during the preparation for the bowl game.

Oh shut up! Get of your high horse.

Have you ever tried to coach someone?

If their minds and bodies are used to one week of prep, they will naturally not respond that well to suddenly doubling that prep.

They will do a bit more prep and probably watch more film, but you reach a point where you can only try and drill it into a kid so many times.

I would assume that CPR knows how to utilize the two weeks effectively and I don't think that anything I could add would improve the situation.

This. I'm sure as the coaches are on the road they still have film and notes to prep for the gameplan. No need to bash the players heads in for two weeks straight.
