    Re: Weather Help

Should be ahead of any snow that would cause problems, most snow won't begin until after 6-8pm and you likely won't see any travel problems until closer to 10pm as temperatures drop.

You should be fine. I don't see anything of concern picking up for northern Iowa until after sunset.

Plus the pavement temps should remain warm enough during the time you're traveling to just be wet.

I only see an OSU storm alert for a week later. You drive careful though.

Dang, I was gonna charge you a few credits for the info (as you can see I'm in dire need of credits) but I wasn't first.

    Therefore, no charge. :)

    Safe travels.

Any thoughts regarding accumulation amounts on the roads for tomorrow morning's commute? I'm trying to decide if I should get the new tires for my car mounted this evening. The current tires suck in snow, hence plan for getting the new ones installed before winter driving.

Probably just a few inches, although the NAM is continuing to suggest a little more. The roads could be a slushy mess by tomorrow morning though so be careful.

It is not going to snow in central Iowa is it?

Most of the snow should fall between 10pm-6am, thus I wouldn't be surprised to see some roads slick during the morning commute tomorrow (mainly secondary roads, county highways, etc.). It will likely be a slushy snow on roads, with 2-5" on grass definitely possible depending upon the rate that the snow falls.

Winter is going to be here eventually, so I'd say just put on the winter treads now and be done with it.

Thanks for the responses. We've got ~500 miles of driving coming up this weekend, which is the only reason I'm hesitant to put the new tires on (no sense wearing the new tires until needed), but the couple bucks that those miles are worth in tire-wear is negligible compared to the peace of mind from good rubber on (potentially) bad roads.
