Should Iowa State think about scheduling Hawaii?

Colorado has played Hawaii the last 2 years. This year they played in Hawaii. Because of that, I have learned that you can schedule a 13th game in your schedule. Should this be something that Iowa State should consider while still in this rebuilding process?

For example, this year we could of played Hawaii instead of UConn and added another game against another easy win team. Either another mid-major or bottom feeder of a BCS conference. I believe you lose one of your bye weeks to do this.

I only really bring this up because of last year and this year. Adding Hawaii would probably be a win and the adding of another game could help us reach bowl eligibility of a game outside of the Big 12.

Thoughts? Of course this would just be used as a small shot in the arm to help build up Iowa State to being a player each year but going bowling only helps in the building process for obvious reasons.

I'm not sure if you have to win 7 games if you play 13 or not.

Why would scheduling Hawaii allow you to add a game?

Well then this wouldn't work. It was just brought to my attention today why Colorado is playing 13 games this year. Thought it was a neat scheduling perk.

Have to have at least a .500 record no matter what. 6-7 wouldn't be eligible for a bowl.

Costs a lot to send a team to Hawaii. You make up that money with a 13th game.

I think USC did this as their "bowl" game last year. Not as what people call our "bowl" game against Iowa etc., but as in they couldnt go to a bowl so they scheduled Hawaii instead.

Re: Should Iowa State think about scheduling Hawaii?

You have to have 7 wins to be bowl eligible when playing 13 games.

And if they do this, they need to wait until I move to Hawaii so I can see the game there!

No, I think we should follow Iowa's non-conf. schedule...
Then let's see the Hawkeye faithful criticize us for scheduling easy teams.

Re: Should Iowa State think about scheduling Hawaii?

Remember what happened the last time Iowa State had a 13-game regular season schedule ...

ISU Falls to Connecticut, 37-20 - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

I realize that proves nothing but I've long thought a contributing/finalizing factor in the '02 collapse was that the season was too freaking long.

And also that we were playing a "bowl game" on someone else's home field! Imagine if some lesser team (Kent State, for instance) struggles to a 6-5 record, then has to play their bowl game against us in Jack Trice Stadium. In below-zero weather.

I'm emailing JP to make sure we declare ourselves ineligible for a bowl next year, then schedule Hawaii. Beats the heck out of Shreveport.
