Colorado has played Hawaii the last 2 years. This year they played in Hawaii. Because of that, I have learned that you can schedule a 13th game in your schedule. Should this be something that Iowa State should consider while still in this rebuilding process?
For example, this year we could of played Hawaii instead of UConn and added another game against another easy win team. Either another mid-major or bottom feeder of a BCS conference. I believe you lose one of your bye weeks to do this.
I only really bring this up because of last year and this year. Adding Hawaii would probably be a win and the adding of another game could help us reach bowl eligibility of a game outside of the Big 12.
Thoughts? Of course this would just be used as a small shot in the arm to help build up Iowa State to being a player each year but going bowling only helps in the building process for obvious reasons.
I realize that proves nothing — but I've long thought a contributing/finalizing factor in the '02 collapse was that the season was too freaking long.
And also that we were playing a "bowl game" on someone else's home field! Imagine if some lesser team (Kent State, for instance) struggles to a 6-5 record, then has to play their bowl game against us in Jack Trice Stadium. In below-zero weather.
