    Re: Monday Musings: 11-7 Edition

So our four-deep stable of RB's goes to six deep next year. Safe to say someone will transfer in hopes of gaining playing time? I'm not trying to be "that guy", but I think it's realistic for this day in age.

I might be one of the few, but the less-than-spectacular play in the exhibition is sort of what I expected (even though I think we can be a bubble NCAA/ top 5 big 12 team), and what I wanted ... In a strange way.

I'll explain: I think this is a very talented roster, that can endure injuries. But it's not without it's shortcomings. If this team struggles early trying to find a way to overcome it's issues, it has a chance for greater growth later in the season. I could see this team starting slow, but maximizing it's potential in Jan/ Feb - which is what you want.

Last year we got off to a fast start - but we had one lineup, with a few subs. Everyone knew their role right from the start. This year, we have a lot of moving parts, and it will take time for everything to click and players to learn their role. Potential is there - but indent expect to see it right away.

    Re: Monday Musings: 11-7 Edition

I remember this summer people saying how white should transfer cause there is just no potential for him to play. Look what's happening now. If those two backs weren't redshirting, I have no doubt they wouldn't have seen the field over the past two weeks, with two of our four backs being banged up.

    — Just a reminder here that Wednesday is day one of college basketball’s early signing period. Don’t expect any sort of surprises when it comes to Iowa State.
Just to clarify: that means that all 4 verbal commits will sign on Wednesday?

    Re: Monday Musings: 11-7 Edition

I was surprised to see the lack of intensity Sunday, too, but not totally surprised. I was pleased that we went up 21-9 without the intensity and execution. We really looked like a stand-around offense where someone would try to go one-on-one in the beginning. I also wanted to see us look for more fast breaks, but I don't think GVS was going to allow that party to start.

Agree on McGee. He might be a quicker Jake Anderson for us in terms of effort. Hopefully, that sparks everybody else along, although I think that playing a game that counts with a much larger (in attendance) crowd will help that a lot.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

From one exhibition game, McGee certainly gave a glimpse of his quickness and effort. After the first 5 min the game slowed down, and dragged.

So a bunch of young guys played against KU and they barely beat them and it makes you excited about the future of ISU football? Im confused.

Sounds like Nealy is destined to play in the slot, like Jarvis West.

Don't forget, that before Shontrelle went down, we ran a 3 back set quite a bit. I think we could see that more next season.

I think our dinky playbook helped KU. When we went extravagant we did well to get the TD.

Actually only three commitments. Naz Long is technically a member of the 2011 class.

Actually, yeah. We saw young guys making plays on Saturday who weren't even on the radar earlier in the year. A lot of these guys played a lot against Tech too. They've won two Big 12 games in a row where the Darius Reynolds' of the world have been non-existent.

I like the young offensive talent on this team a lot.

    Re: Monday Musings: 11-7 Edition

I love the fact that we lined up in the exact same formation, and ran the exact same play four times in a row to Woody to put away the game. That is exactly what a dominant team should be able to do when they need to, and they absolutely imposed their will on KU to seal the victory (and with a bit of a young, patchwork line too).

So you call your shot last week about Jarvis West getting more touches - yet no mention of him in your musings? His kick-off return had the TV analysts going crazy in the booth and he had some nice plays at WR - go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back!

    Ha! Thanks for realizing this!

No need to pat myself on the back. He's obviously a very talented guy. I have just been pointing it out a lot over the last year.

I really want him to break a long one before the end of this year.....
