Big 12 has one less bowl than the Big 10 and two less bowls than the SEC, but has a higher payout per team after realignment.

So, as the Big 10 fans would like us to believe, maybe their bowl lineup isn't vastly superior to the Big 12's. And if it is all about the money (to a school), and that is what they always tell us, then it looks like they come up on the short end.

You know, on that whole list, there are probably only 4-5 decent venues to watch a college football game. We fans are so desperate to compare our teams/conferences to each other that we actually believe these worthless commercial-a-thons are indicative of a program's worth. The conferences split most of the money anyway, so the payout difference are minimal.

Judge a team based on its W-L record, and who it played. If it's not the national championship game, it's just another bowl.

Why, they are a marketer and globally low-cost vertically-integrated manufacturer of quality branded basic apparel, of course.

    (seriously...THAT'S what they say.)

If you're looking to increase your brand recognition through title sponsorship of a bowl game, why the New Mexico Bowl? Why not break the bank and pony up for the Sun Bowl or something?

I am sorry to see Weedwacker is not used in a name. Bowl names we would like to see if we need some more bowl games:

Victoria's Secret Lingerie Bowl in LA Coliseum under the lights

    Wallyworld Bowl in Bentonville

    Deffenbaugh Disposable Bowl in Detroit

Starbucks Latte Bowl in Chicago Bearland

Vlasic Classic Fantastic Pickle Bowl in Cleveland or Akron

Fiat Dodge Chrysler All Auto Bowl on an USS Reagan aircraft carrier

Groupon Big Deal Bowl in Tuscaloosa

I think your math will still work out that the Big 12 does fine on a per school basis, but it looks like you are counting the TOTAL payout, instead of the per school payout for each bowl. Therefore, your per school average is double the actual.

I disagree. The top 3-5 bowls in SEC, B10, B12 and PAC12 are good games between the top teams in each league. It is always interesting to see how the conferences top teams do against each other. How many good Cotton, Holiday, Outback and Capital One Bowls have their been over the years - there have been many.

I am a big fan of the bowl system and hope they go to the plus one instead of an 8 or 16 team playoff. I think the national champion can be determined from the top 4 teams almost every year. And beyond those 4 teams, there are many other games that are worth watching. How can you be a college football fan and not like watching all of the good games. The money and sponsorship in the bowl games is no different than the big money and TV advertising in regular season football games and in NCAA basketball. Big time college athletics has been about TV money for many years now and the bowl games are just an extension of that.

I have never bought that the Big XII's bowl lineup is bad. The Big Ten just dominates in name recognition of the mid-range bowls because they are traditional New Years Day games.

The money proves there is not that big of a divide plus I actually prefer Big XII locations.

Yes, started last year. It's well-deserved. The Insight Bowl is an excellent destination and venue.

I guess what bothers me about the Big XII's bowl arrangements is that historically, they've all been in Texas - i.e. Cotton, Alamo, Sun, Texas, Independence (Shreveport looks like TX) or some out of the way place not really suited for football (San Diego, New York City, etc.)

No games in Florida? New Orleans? A California location that airplanes actually fly to?

Good bye week topic to debate- If we beat OSU and OU should we expect to beat K State? If so, by how much?

I believe those numbers are payouts per team. For instance for the Cotton Bowl, the Big 12 and the SEC would both receive $7.25M minus an allotted payout for the teams participating. If the teams expenses go beyond their allotted payouts they have to cover it on their own.
