    New Computer Bloatware

I just bought a new Lenovo laptop. What Software can I uninstall?

    Active Protection System
    Best Buy Connect
    Best Buy PC App
    BioExcess
    Google Toolbar for IE
    Kaspersky Anti Virus
    Lenovo Security Suite
    Microsoft Silverlight
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition
    Port Locker
    Power 2 Go
    Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
    Veriface
    Windows Live Essentials
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology
    Intel Management Engine Components

I only listed some of the software that looks odd to me.

    Re: New Computer Bloatware

    Remove these for sure:
    Best Buy Connect
    Best Buy PC App
    Google Toolbar for IE
    Kaspersky Anti Virus

What some of these are for:

    BioExcess - Fingerprint reader

Lenovo Security Suite - Security settings (Windows login, fingerprint info, and settings for when windows login is required)

Microsoft Silverlight - Runs videos (ESPN3 I think utilizes it) on many websites similar to a Flash program KEEP

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition - runs stuff behind the scenes KEEP

Power 2 Go - DVD burning program. It's an okay program.

Port Locker - Can be set to make password required for USB devices to prevent people from copying data from a laptop (Business espionage essentially)

Veriface - Uses webcam to read your face similar to the fingerprint reader

Windows Live Essentials - Microsoft online products (Option to keep or delete IMO)

Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Run processor & hard drive related storage KEEP

Intel Management Engine Components - Run processor & hard drive related storage KEEP

    For anti virus use:
Microsoft security essentials (good program and free)

I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.

Out of curiosity, why Kaspersky on the remove for sure list?

It's a decent program. If he wants to keep until the trial is up that's fine.

No way would I pay for Kaspersky when MSE is just as good and free.
